I checked in late - but pre-booked. Quite a down market feel about the hotel. The rotating neon sign outside had only half the letters illuminated which should have been the first indication of how they run the place. Very unprofessional staff at reception. No one in any business dress or a uniform. Despite having had my credit card in their system for a week I was told that they were billing me $200 as a deposit against my leaving and not paying! I have never had this said to me at any hotel anywhere in the world.
The carpet on the floor of the main elevator was filthy. I was given a room that turned out to be next to an elevator (a different one from the main elevator) and it could heard (and felt) loudly in my room. I never slept all night. People were using the elevator at every hour of the night. It was used at 1.00 am, 2.00 am, 3.00 am, 4.00 am and 5.00 am - I know, its use kept me awake. I complained in the morning and was told that the rooms either side of this elevator (from 1st floor up) all have the same noise problem and they know about it. I asked why then was I given this room and was told that because I checked in late, this was all they had. I reminded that I had pre-booked and reserved a room (a good one, I assumed without a noise problem) and was not advised of this on check in. The woman said she would reduce my bill on check out. When I did check out at lunch-time the reception manager handled it, but knew nothing about the proposal to reduce my bill. He even said that they have lost of people who stay in this room who say what a nice nights rest they have. When I said that a member of staff had already admitted that this room (and all the other rooms near the elevator) had the same problem, he asked me who had said this and it was not true. I pointed out the lady and said that it clearly had been said by other guests as reception knew about it. He said he would reduce my bill, which he did by 30%. I said that as I had not slept at all, all night I would have thought that the room should be free! At least one person at reception was honest and admitted that they did have a problem. I suggested that either they tell guests in advance and offer them the room at a discount,or, they don't use the rooms for guests to sleep in (but as day-use meeting rooms), or, they just close down the operation of this elevator between midnight and 7.00am.
The general poor presentation of the hotel, and staff, the tiredness and dirty furnishings (not to mention the expensive and poor quality breakfast) and the way that the (obvious) problem was first of all denied by the manager, would not encourage me to use this hotel (or any in their group) again.
