My family stayed here from July 8th until July 11th and had a wonderful stay. This was definitely my favorite hotel of the 8 places we stayed on our Canadian Rockies/southern Alberta trip.
We chose to book a room here as we were planning on going to the Calgary Stampede and rooms in Calgary were very expensive or sold out because of the Stampede. A couple of the other places in Strathmore (less expensive ones) were already sold out. I researched the prices and availability online, then called to verify that the Days Inn had availability. I spoke to Doug-I believe he's a manager-and he was very helpful and friendly. He helped me get the best rate we could for the nights we'd be there-so I booked the rooms (2 of them) over the phone with him as it was better than I could get online. He also gave me some good info about the Stampede. The front desk staff also graciously allowed us to do a late checkout to final morning.
We checked in late in the evening-very late-we were their last checkin that night. They gave us a free upgrade on the rooms-I booked 2 standard rooms each with 2 queen beds-we were upgraded to two adjoining 2-queen bed suites. Thanks, front desk staff! All the staff we encountered-front desk, breakfast workers, maid- during our stay were always very polite and helpful.
The suites were very nice! I loved them. Very spacious. The beds were very comfortable-good bedding, lots of pillows. Comfortable beds was nice after very long exhausting days at the Stampede! In addition to the beds, there was a sitting area with a pullout sofa. There was also an easy chair and foot rest. The suite included a mini kitchen area-a sink and refrigerator. I can't remember if there was a microwave or not. The rooms were very clean. The bathrooms were very nice, as well-extremely clean. My mom even talked to the maid about what she used to get the shower tiles (I think it is granite) so clean and free of scum because she was so impressed. The rooms were quiet-we are on the 3rd floor and had our a/c fan running all night as we happened to be visiting during a extreme heat wave. But we didn't hear much noise at all. Our room overlooked the parking lot, so not an incredible view-but we didn't mind as we weren't there for the view.
Breakfast (complimentary) was also very good. An excellent selection and variety of foods. There is a waffle-maker, scrambled eggs, sausage (once bacon while we were there), hash browns, one day there was a egg-potato-sausage dish as well, yogurt, canned peaches, fresh fruit, various bread/bagels for toast, muffins, cold cereal, juice, and other stuff. The breakfast staff kept it well-stocked. There is a nice breakfast room/lounge area with plenty of seating.
We only went swimming in the pool once, but it was also well-kept and clean. Plenty of towels, too. Great waterside! A lot of fun! My family loved the waterside. The pool is no very deep-it's deep enough to swim in, though. I think it's only 4ft 6in deep.
Parking seemed to be safe and well-lit. There was plenty of parking. The hotel was easy to spot from the highway. You do have to turn off the highway and then turn onto another road to get to the hotel. It's not difficult. We had printed directions with us, as well as GPS.
All the areas of the hotel were kept up nicely and very clean. One thing I noticed that was nice-there are bathrooms on the main floor down the hall from the breakfast room. Convenient. We also used the business center once to change a reservation at other hotel. The business center has 2 computers and a printer and a lot of desk space. The commuter worked well. I didn't use the printer.
Thanks for a great stay, Days Inn Strathmore! And thanks to Doug for all the help!
