We, my friends and family, have been going to this restaurant for years. The owners worked hard to give fresh, good portions at a reasonable price. The traffic was constant for either eat in or take-out. The decor is humerous with tea clothes of various areas in the UK. The offered mushy peas and occassionally had specials on desserts like bread pudding. I don't recall if I ever saw them opened for lunch. They were so good that even at Christmas when there were guests and everyone was tired of turkey you could whip up and bring back a feast. And then after building a trade they sold the chip shop. Now, ordinarily this does not mean that that is a bad thing. Maintain the quality and quantity and your destined to hold your market. It WAS voted best fish and chips in the area for 3 yrs. The occassion I ordered for pickup I thought it strange to see anyone either sitting or picking up. The penny should have dropped right there. When I brought my reliable feast home as had done so many times before and opened the packages we were gobb smacked meaning jaw dropping, shocked and horrified to see the usual HALIBUT to be less than 1/2 the USUAL size. I'll repeat - the pieces of fish were less than half the usual size. DID YOU THINK NOONE WOULD NOTICE? And then there were the chips - hello macdonalds! Even if they cared the least little bit they could have at least tried to maintain some resemblance to fish and chips found anywhere. The dogs got the freezer burned bits of fish but they wouldn't touch the chips. Oh and by the way - fish and chip shops should be able to provide lemon and tartar when requested.
