My family went on a whale watching tour on August 1st with Discovery Marine Safaris. There were appx. 30 people on the tour, with family groups from New Zealand and Holland, couples from Australia, Italy, Spain and the USA. The boat was very comfortable and the ride was smooth even over the exciting rapids and fast flowing currents. Captain Joel and Marnie, our Naturalist Guide, were friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and professional. The large picture windows allowed viewing from any seat, but it was easy to walk around the boat for taking close up photos. It was nice to be able to sit in the enclosed cabin where it was warm and there was also a convenient bathroom on board. We had near perfect sunny weather for our tour, but the wind blowing off the water was still nippy. The scenery was spectacular, and it was awe inspiring to travel through the channels and beautiful inlets. We saw a black bear foraging on the shoreline and were able to get within close range for photos. There were numerous seals and sea lions sunning themselves on rock outcroppings & small islands. We viewed a number of bald eagles and numerous other seabirds. We searched for the Orcas all day long, finally being rewarded with sighting a pod of Transients. It was very exciting to be able to follow and view them for a good half hour, and the Orcas came up quite close to the boat. Everyone on the boat was thrilled to experience the whales so close up. I really want to applaud Marnie and Joel for their determination, they really went out of their way to make sure we were all satisfied customers, even extending our whale watching tour an extra hour. It was fabulous and I would definitely recommend them.
