“Anchor Inn Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2008

I attended a wedding this July at the Anchor Inn and was blown away by the spectacular veiws.

The rooms were average in size and quality.

This type of an occasion should be something that is remembered by all attending as a perfect and special day. Unfortunatley this was not the case. The treatment of the wedding party and family memebers that were in the hotel for 5 days prior to the wedding was unacceptable. The staff that were involved in the wedding were unaccomodating and rude to the bride and groom. When asked to change minor details they made no attempt what so ever to satisfy, or agree on an arrangement that would suite both parties. Instead this requests were met with rolling eyes, and wispers while the bride was standing right there. There were so many inappropriate situations that occured in the 6 days that we were guests of this hotel.
When check out day arrived the brides father, asked to speak to the wedding co-ordinator. He was told that she was unavailable. Upon arriving home an email was sent describing our dissatisfaction of the event. The response from the hotel was, too bad so sad. They made excuses for the way that the wedding party was treated and went as far to say that, "our staff was warned about these people."

None of these people have been to Campbell River before, other that the bride and groom when they chose the Anchor Inn as the place that they would celebrate this wonderful day with their friends and family.

If you are still interested in being a guest of this hotel I would urge you to stay the Coast Wesyerly in Comox. It is very close and a much better experience.

A terrible situation was made much better thanks to the staff at the Anchor. Campbell River accomodations were in high demand as there were plenty of sporting groups in town.

The staff member originally told me that he could only do 1 night as the majority of the groups were coming the next day but he found me a room for the entire duration of my stay.

Rooms were stocked nicely with a decent sized TV, a mini fridge/freezer and a nice sized patio.

Located right on the water the view is stunning with personal boats, cruiseships and neighboring Quadra Island.

Got a good deal on a suite - massive room - with 2 sofa/couches and huge living room, and a big bedroom with double bed - best night's sleep we had all holiday! And kitchen. 2 TV's (one in each room) great with kids! Loved the pool - only ones using it. Paid for breakfast choose from the menu- you get free breakfast coupons per person, or you can use them for $3 off a menu breakfast (as stated on each coupon - the previous reviewer obviously didn't read his coupon!) Try the pancakes at breakfast - could feed a family of four easily!
Amazing view from the room - that alone is worth it! The hotel is a bit dated, with NO lift, but hey - that's what my husband is for (lugging the cases!)
Staff were friendly and helpful - great family restaurant a short drive away called Moxie's. My kids loved the kids menu - for dessert they got an ice cream served in an fabulous bowl with 'dry-ice' effect -so huge amounts of 'smoky effect' very Aadams Family- that really made their day! You have to see it to believe it.

  • Liked — The HUGE suite!
  • Disliked — Bit dated, but ok really.

I booked two queen beds over a month ago. When my sister and I arrived on Saturday night, the hotel had given away our room and had elected to put us in an "upgrade" room - the Roman Bridal Suite. Two middle aged women. One king bed. My sister slept on the couch, and we were unsuccessful in getting additional bedding for the couch from the staff. To add insult to injury, the night and morning staff all were insistent that this suite was an "upgrade"! (Do you want to pay $142 to sleep on a couch??)

The suite was...interesting. Being "Roman", it had plastic grapes overhanging the jacuzzi tub in the living room. The wall decor's matte had partially fallen in the frame and the print was mouldy. The hotel's infrastructure is sketchy at best - a view of the sea, and Quadra Island, but from the Bridal Suite one must look over moss-covered roofs, partially painted siding, and HVAC fans. No elevator for the top three floors. A sad property in need of some TLC and better management. I'm just happy it wasn't my wedding night!

The staff were unwilling to entertain the thought of making us happy, insisting that I contact the manager about our lack of a bed during a weekday.

Two thumbs down from me and my sister (who laughed uproariously when we were advised that the suite normally costs $267!). I'm certain there are better properties in Campbell River - the Coast Discovery Inn is one, for instance.

We recently stayed at the Anchor Inn and had a fabulous stay! It is about a 10 minute drive to downtown where there are plenty of shops. They have a variety of Theme Rooms that are magnificent! Please check out their website for more info.

The Staff are friendly and very helpful.

If you are looking for a nice waterfront location, this would be an ideal choice.

This place has definitely seen better days. And a word of advice-do not eat at the hotel's sushi bar unless you enjoy 2 days of food poisoning. No joke.

We stayed one night in mid October. The fellow that checked us in was efficient, but not particularly helpful to relocate us when we pointed out two problems (a noisy kitchen exhaust fan directly below our open window, and mold in the tub grout). The room showed signs of some recent refreshment work, the view was nice, and the bed was comfortable. The room was reasonably clean except for the black mold under the white silicon grout around the tub. The only consolation we got from the clerk was that it may be time to regrout the tub (whatever happened to housekeeping using bleach?). We slept well, after the exhaust fan was turned off after 10 pm. The next morning, we found our way down to the hotel restaurant for the complementary continental breakfast. The server/hostess greated us with less than enthusiastic or helpful information. When she figured out why we were there, she pointed us to the setup, which frankly we found to be very disapointing. There was coffee, 4 kinds of dry cerial, white and brown bread, and some primative pastries. There was only one kind of milk (very whole), and no juices. Boy scouts could have made a nicer looking presentation. Not until after we made a selection did it become known to us that ordering off of a menue was possible. This was picked up from overhearing a conversation across the room. The server failed to offer this service to us upon our arrival. All in all, of eights nights motor touring the east coast of Vancouver Island, this hotel experience was the least impressive of our eight nights at various hotels. Next time we're up that way, we'll do a more thorough research of the area for better accommodations.

  • Disliked — Poor cleanliness of the bathtub; there was black mold under the white silicon grout.
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't expect the best.
