“Great B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

Great hosts, great food, excellent beds! Good places to walk, lovely gardens. I stayed while taking a painting workshop hosted by Mirja and we had a great studio space to work in. Thanks Marc and Mirja!

Room Tip: Great hot tub!

We have been to Canada a number of times and this was our first time to stay in a Bed and breakfast. We were very happy with our choice. Mark, the owner and host, and his wife Mirja were amazing and their service was great. They were helpful with suggestions of where we should go and what we should look at. They were very down to earth people and we enjoyed sitting and talking with them.
The rooms were awesome. The bed were comfortable and the bathroom and jetted showers were relaxing. The outdoor jacuzzi was a wonderful way to spend our relaxing evenings. The meals were awesome and Mark went out of his way to provide amazing breakfasts. He is very courteous about one's allergies and how best he can help with any dietary restrictions.
Some people have complained about the pulp mill being right across the river. We didn't find this a problem. The air is fresh and it is nice walking around the grounds, which Mark works tediously on to provide a relaxing environment. The pulp mill noise is nothing but white noise - especially if you are from the city and you have all the pollution and traffic noise. We hardly noticed anything due to the beautiful area.
We would definitely recommend the Windbourne and will try to make it back up in the future.

Gracious hosts, delicious and beautifully presented breakfasts, gorgeous new B&B with wonderful & warm hottub surrounded by spectular gardens and foliage with 13 foot sunflowers. Our room was presented with a wonderful nights sleep in top of the line linens and super clean and beautiful bath area. We recommend it highly and look forward to returning in the future.

Room Tip: Hottub (not swimming pool) and wonderful and warm enjoying the evening skies. Beautifully landscaped...

Finally, somewhere to stay in Castlegar that’s not a franchise roadside motel or a run down “no tell motel”! Windborne B&B meets the threshold tests of a good Bed & Breakfast: (1) Pleasing, contemporary furnishings and a new, purpose built home (2) Lush mattresses and linens (3) Private bathrooms with “bells & whistles” plumbing (4) A hot tub (5) Decks or patios (6) Breakfasts of pancakes, poached eggs, French toast, and fresh fruit cups (not all at the same time!), and (7) An enthusiastic host. They also surpass the average B & B on some key perks: (1) They promise to accommodate food allergies, and did. (2) They promise to be pet friendly, and were. (3) They also provide a guest fridge, and made room in their pantry for our extra dry-groceries and in their freezer for our ice packs. (4) When they say, “you’re welcome to use our kitchen” they mean it. We were able to prepare cold plates, and to prepare our pet’s dinners, without once feeling like we were intruding or putting out our hosts. Their one challenge, location, they meet head on. The Windborne is located across the river from the Celgar Pulp and Paper Mill. It’s not something your can really ignore! And not everyone has a nostalgic childhood memory (as I do) of travelling along the Broadwater Road looking at the Mill and thinking “It’s just like a big City.” because of the tall buildings and myriad lights! So I mention it, because hey it’s there and might be a bit a shock to a first time visitor as they round the bend, but the home’s been situated on the lot to minimize the Mill’s dominance on the horizon, and the upper hillside’s been landscaped to provide an alternative, relaxing view.

Room Tip: The Moonlight offers the largest suite, but any of the three are well appointed.

For business trips, I almost always stay at a hotel and rarely do I stay in B&B's unless on vacation with family or friends. In this case, I was only staying one night in Castlegar, BC and needed accommodation. Most hotels were sold out and on the lower end of the qualilty scale. Apparently the local P&P mill was getting overhauled and the rooms locally were taken up by workers for the week.

I found Windborne B&B and took a chance. It was like going home away from home. Travel is sometimes lonely and Marc and his wife were welcoming, friendly and genuinely interested in my visit! The house was beautiful and done to the utmost of quality and taste. Very clean, high end features and extremely comfortable. I felt relaxed and at home during my short visit. Marc made a wonderful breakfast which included "candied salmon in eggs" and some of the best coffee I have ever tasted.

If, like me, you prefer a higher end and better quality facility, this is the place to go! I will now consider B&B locals whenever I travel but not sure if anyone can match this place....

Derek P.

Room Tip: All the rooms are superb!

Thank you for taking you time to write this review. We are glad you took a chance on Windborne B&B. I am happy that you enjoyed our breakfast. It is one of our most popular dishes. Hopefully you well stay in many B&B's now. Most B&B owners are very proud of their homes as they should be and they love to show case for all their guests. We look forward to seeing you in any future trips in the area.

My wife and I stayed at the Windborne 21 to 24 September 2012. The facilities were excellent. extremely clean rooms, new and modern building and furnishings. Marc was a very gracious host, who went out of his way to make us comfortable. His enthusiasm regarding breakfast meals shone like a beacon and it was reflected in the delicious food he prepared, he obviously enjoys what he does.

We had interesting conversations at breakfast and in the evening when he was relaxing nice of him to spend the time and be corial with his guests.

The bed was comfortable we both slept very well. Marc prepared breakfast very early for us on the last day since he knew we wanted to leave early next day as we had a 9 hour trip back to Vancouver.

I highly recommend the Windborne, we will definitely stay there next year

Room Tip: We went for the Driftwood room as an economical measure. However, the upgrade to the waterfall suite...

We couldn't have stayed at a more enjoyable place in Castlegar. After checking availability and price at local hotels we chose Windborne B&B. We were not disappointed. It was by far the best place we have ever stayed in the Kootenays. Marc and Mirja made us feel like special guests from the moment we arrived. The beds were comfortable. The room well equipped with everything we needed. Breakfasts were amazing! We stayed three nights and will definitely return the next time we are in the area.
