“Pleasantly surprised...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012

I recently stayed at the Pomeroy Hotel and chose it based on TA reviews. Fort St John does not have too many hotel choices so I was a little nervous. However, the modern room was very nice - more like a suite with a separate living room plus a microwave, fridge and tea/coffee maker. Nice large flat screen TV as well. The lobby is nice and welcoming with a fire, TV and sitting area. Although it is just off the Alaska highway we found the room to be nice and quiet. Also, based on other reviews I requested a room away from the Casino side to reduce noise - turned out to be very quiet. Staff were helpful and friendly. We ordered room service the first night from the restaurant attached to the hotel and it arrived very quickly indeed. Good food. Also ate there the 2nd night and the food was good. I will be staying there again.

Room Tip: Traveller's tip - ask to stay away from the Casino - nice and quiet.

We were looking for a quick get away, and reserved a king jacuzzi room. The Staff was totally pleasant and our yellow lab was welcome with a treat. There was a $25 pet fee. The room was very well appointed, although the tv was a little small, the room was quite considering there was a family with small children across the hall. The free breakfast in the morning was more than expected and included hot breakfast eggs, hash-browns, sausages, bacon, waffles...you name it.. more than expected for free continental breakfast. The hotel had many amenities that included pool, hot tub, exercise room, Tony Roma's, Chances Gaming Center. Over all a very pleasant stay, with helpful and friendly staff.

My boyfriend and I have stayed here twice in the jacuzzi king suite. It's 2 large rooms semi divided,2 bathrooms with a kitchenette. There's a table with 4 chairs, work desk, king bed, wall mounted flat screen tv and dresser in one room. In the other room there is a fireplace (fake-but still as cozy),2 couches with ottoman anther TV on the wall and the JacuZi!
There's all kinds of room to get closer ;)

My online reservation (don't leave home without it) was not at either Pomeroy in FSJ but they were able to accommodate me. Rooms are large and very clean. Facilities are great. Unfortunately my room was close to the casino or the lounge that played loud music on Friday night. "Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close" is how I would describe them, glad I wasn't traveling with small children. Not much sleep the first night so I was moved to a room on the 4th floor for the next night. Unfortunately, the wireless Internet signal is not strong enough up there. It would come and go in waves, incredibly frustrating.

I have stayed here over 5 times, clean hotel, fast check in. Rooms are good size pretty much what you would expect. This hotel has 2 down sides; 1 is the Internet, it is sooooo slow I'm not even sure why they offer it the speed brings back memories of the dialup days. Second is trying to book a conference room, I was trying to move business from another hotel in town to this one but I could not get a return call on booking a conference room, I left 10 messages and never got a call back. The non smoking hotel is a plus over a lot of other hotels.

This is a fairly average hotel in a place where perhaps you expect worse but don't think for a minute this is a world class hotel - it is a pleasant surprise and good enough really.

Check in - friendly and efficient enough

Rooms - nicely appointed with good beds and pillows but really thin walls carry a lot of noise and floors or ceilings and plumbing which carry a lot of noise. No chance of a lie in here.

Breakfast - really quite good, eggs Benedict this morning were really good for example. Good selection of hot and cold buffet and Starbucks coffee for good and bad.

Restaurant - Tony Romas attached, good but painfully slow if busy best avoid, took our group 2 hrs to finish supper on a midweek night, pretty poor.

general - nice and friendly staff but really nothing special

Wireless is sketchy and slow

It may be the best in town but set your expectations low and you won't be disappointed.
