“Where's Bob Newhart?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

Absolutely loved the experience! A friend of mine and I took our sons Heli-skiing last February and thankfully booked the Winston. The hospitality was amazing, the rooms were equally amazing and the ambiance was superb. There was plenty to do for the two 12 year old boys, and my 21 year old son had a blast, a great restaurant and a fun pub in the evenings made it a great weekend experience.
I'll be booking our return trip soon, only bringing more people next time!

This is a great lodge - very friendly staff, comfortable rooms, delicious breakfasts and a cracking pub that serves excellent meals. It's close enough to the lifts to be convenient, but far enough away to escape the noise.

Would recommend highly.

My wife and I have stayed at Winston Lodge on several occasions. Every time we come to Golden to ski at Kicking Horse. The rooms are cozy, the bed is fantastic and the great room down stairs is awesome as is the hot tub!

The best part though is the Saloon. The food is great and the service is amazing!

The Lodge has so much character - If you are looking for a real B&B experience you MUST stay here. The lodge is very rustic and VERY clean.. There is a wood burning fireplace, hot tub (located outside with a view of trees) and even the chance to have a massage right at the lodge! Perfect after two days of skiing. Perfect hillside location makes it easy to ski off the hill and take your equipment off in the lodges secured storage room. NOT to mention you leave your cozy fireplace seat and trade it for a giant game of Jenga or Operation in only 15 steps! The restaurant/pub is only a door away and we ended up eating all of our meals there because the food was amazing and atmosphere was awesome! The staff are accommodating and friendly .. Will return for sure!

Room Tip: There are a couple room types depending if you are travelling as a couple or family ..

My Husband and I love going to the Winston, partly because we have warm memories of our wedding there, but also because of the comfortable, laid back, and luxurious atmosphere that has been created. Bill and Tracey have been very hospitable and are genuinely kind hearted people. I had my friends and family stay at the lodge. They all raved about the convenient location on the ski hill, and told me they had a wonderful experience. The jet tubs and extremely comfy beds make the Winston my favorite place for a cozy weekend away

This place describes my ideal life. A rustic cabin in the woods, at the base of a mountain. It's ridiculously cozy and rustic. Our room was adorable, with a king size bed that was SO comfortable. Rustic, wooden everything. The people are so friendly too. The main room is warm and beautiful with a fireplace and comfortable couches. It was really easy to feel at home and wander around comfortably. They serve you breakfast in the dining area, and it was very good. GREAT location for a ski/snowboard weekend, I cannot hype it up enough, we just loved everything about it so much.

I stayed here with my girlfriend for the long weekend just past and really enjoyed it. The building is beautiful, cozy and very well appointed with rustic wood furniture. The main room boasts a large log fire, cozy seats and sofas as well as an 'open' breakfast and dining area. The breakfast itself is a self-serve continental style with options such as cereal, oatmeal, pastries and breads. There is fresh coffee brewed throughout the morning. Guests can return to the area at any time during the day for a snack or tea/coffee, which is a nice touch.

Upon arrival the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We were invited to leave our shoes at the lobby (to make ourselves feel more at home) and had the option of picking up a pair of complimentary 'slip-on' flip-flops. Our room was very clean, bright and well appointed, with a lovely double Jacuzzi bath in the bathroom (perfect for sinking into after a long hike or cycle). There was also a pretty large balcony with a mountain view. The best part of the room was the bed… it was VERY comfortable.

We got there late in the day so decided to get dinner in the attached pub, which turned into a late night. The food was standard pub fare, as expected, but done well. I had the ribs and my girlfriend had pizza. The best thing about the pub was the selection of board games to pick and choose from, including 'giant jenga', which almost all the people in the pub ended up playing together (including the staff). It was a great atmosphere and memorable night.

Other plus points:
- Outdoor hot tub
- Sauna
- Games room (foosball & darts)
- Free WiFi
- Selection of DVDs to borrow (rooms have dvd players)
- Spa
- Short walk over to the resort gondola and chair lift

The only negative thing we found during our stay was that the TV in our room was placed in an armoire to the side of the bed. We decided to watch a DVD one night and getting comfortable was awkward. Also, because of where the TV was we couldn't hang up any clothes (they've have blocked the screen). Overall it’s a very minor issue and one that's easily fixed.

The place isn't cheap, our stay cost above $830 (check-in Friday, check-out Monday), but we'll definitely be going back during the ski season. Very much looking forward to it!
