“Hidden gem with fantastic pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2012

We booked last minute for one night when our car broke down in Golden. The (new) owner, Bill, was extremely helpful and accommodating, even printed contact info for the car dealership for us upon our arrival. We got the best room in the house, a beautiful two-story loft with 3 beds and amazing views. The lodge has a homey feeling to it, it is rustic but modern, and has a beautiful central fire-placed living room. I liked that we had to take our shoes off when entering, as we would do in our own home. The rustic pub is right next door and could be located in Austria or Switzerland. The ribs were outstanding, great beer, and the atmosphere was perfect for apres ski. Breakfast was included, and was simple but ok quality. Staying at this lodge turned our car break-down into a great vacation experience. We will definitively come back - did I mention that the lodge is located across the street from the Kicking Horse gondola?

We thought we'd do a couple of days of real luxury, as expected with these prices, but alas, that was not the case.
You had to take off your shoes upon entering the hotel. No complimentary slippers, nothing, so, dirty and wet socks... The room looked gorgeous. But... No clothes hangers(that was easily remedied), but no other cupboard, so, do I hang up my underwear???? We were three in this room, so the floor was covered with 3 suitcases, which left no room to manoeuvre! In the bathroom there was 1 small sink; all your stuff had to be put on the floor, as there was nowhere to put it. Besides, there was no hot water, we had to wait a couple of hours.
Horrible loud pub for dinner, lousy food. Wifi, was practically non existant in the rooms, only in the sitting room.
Breakfast was a disaster! No eggs! How can a hotel run out of eggs? Whats wrong with going to the shops? So, stale toast and doughy pancakes. No fruit salad or other lovely buffet breakfast things. Ridiculous.
Last night was a Friday. We were ket awake by the singing and stamping in the pub!!! As if they were in the room next door!
All in all, a second rate experience, definitely not worth the price we paid. Which was a lot more because we booked via Kicking Resort.com. $60 a night more, than if we had booked via their site.

I can't recommend this place, until they get their act together...

The first guests to stay in one of our newly renovated rooms, just happen to be friends of the disgruntled previous owner.
