“Decent hotel (looks better since Travelodge took over)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

We've stayed here a number of times for the last few years, mostly for the Waterslide, but we've noticed that Travelodge is making an effort to spruce it up and bit and might even stay here without the Waterslide. Clean, convenient, love the teepee picnic area where we buy supper for the supermarket and then eat it by the playground. Kids love watching the Prairie Dogs, but careful not to step in their numerous holes. Sometimes some of the staff can come across a bit unprofessional dienchanted. What I really don't like about the hotel is the Buffet Breakfast, it goes from 7am to 9am - 2 hours, seriously?! It is jammed packed busy because everyone is trying to get in on time. Also, when you are coming from B.C. you are on B.C. time so the breakfast time is actually 6am to 8am... are they doing this on purpose so people miss it? Dumb.

Room Tip: If you have kids, close to the Waterslide is nice.

We stopped in Golden on our way from Calgary to Vancouver Island. The hotel was recommended to us and the price was right for a quick stay. We found the rooms to be clean and comfortable, and we appreciated that our dog was welcome as well. The front desk staff was very friendly, and even had their own friendly dogs working with them! We would definitely choose this hotel again if we are stopping in Golden.

We stayed here passing through from Kelowna to Calgary. We got one of the family suites which is two rooms side by side. One has 2 queen beds and the other a queen bed and futon.

Room was okay although apparently they didn't clean under the beds as my kids found a number of items left over. There is a kitchen in this unit but if you don't wash the plates they charge you $10 to clean them so I'm not sure if I'd use them if other people cleaned them.

Location is great right by a number of food places.

Pool was good although a little too deep and COLD for small kids but they had a number of life jackets which was great! They also need to work on their water chemistry as the chlorine content in the pool seem a little high. Water slide worked great and lots of fun.

Continental breakfast was good with waffles being the only hot item but then having the usual other food fair.

Room Tip: They have 3 levels of room and no elevator so getting one on the ground floor is good but then you g...

Clean hotel, lots of towels, and staff that we saw was friendly. Very quiet and only complaint was bed were hard, but that can be said for millions of hotels. Was only there to sleep, as we had events planned the night of and morning afterwards. Cheap and satisfying, breakfast looked good too, but we woke up too late. Good for travelers, maybe not a week long vaca. Pool looked fun too, but once again didn't try it.

We stayed here at the end of July. The motel was pleasant from the outside and our room at the back was clean and well maintained. We used the pool/waterslide area and enjoyed it despite the fact that the water is quite cold.

However, we stayed when there were two separate bus groups. We decided to get to the breakfast when it opened to be sure to get some selection. The breakfast room was incredibly over crowded and the lady in charge was in way over her head. She raised her voice to patrons, couldn't keep up with the demand and looked to be running out of all breakfast foods. If a motel books in two groups, you should plan accordingly.

The only other problem, I'm guessing also related to the tour groups, is that when I went to shower in the morning, I only got freezing cold water. After breakfast, I tested the shower water again and it was warmer but by then it was too late and we needed to get on the road.

All in all, I might stay again as it off the road, mitigating highway noise. They do need to deal with some of these issues though.

We booked this hotel to have a nice family night and to enjoy the pool as it looked spacious in photos. It's not. It is also in a separate building to this motel. The water was SO cold and madness with many hotel guests. Breakfast room is tiny and people ate in line waiting for their next food item. Room was clean but small. We will stay elsewhere next time.

We booked for just one night (2 adults, 2 kids) and got a very nice and clean room w/ two double beds, microwave, refrigerator, coffe maker (and enough space for all our luggage!)
Also the hotel has an awesome indoorpool with waterslide and a hot tube, so the kids and the adults had fun. AND - the hotel has the friendliest and most helpful staff at all, we've ever met! Thanks a lot! We enjoyed our stay and can highly recommend the 'Sportsman Travelodge' Golden!
