“Never again!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

Bugs in the room, rude unprofessional staff, depressing place! Noise from the Hway. Tv didn't work and when i called the front desk i was told that unfortunately there is nobody to fix it...It was the worse motel i ever stayed. No wonder why all the town was sold out except this one.

Dear John M

Thank you for your recent stay at Days Inn-Golden. We are disappointed to hear that your stay was not to your satisfaction, please accept our apologies on behalf of our Staff & Management.
Insects in the fall are often carried into the rooms. Our apologies for the TV, we are in the middle of training our front desk staff to do simple repairs, such as changing batteries. Major repairs require a technician.

Kind Regards,
Kareen

The only thing that almost saved this stay was front desk service.

We booked a two bedroom (with two bedroom doors) suite, but upon arrival were told no such suite existed. The room, including pictures, were booked through Days Inn central reservations system directly with a note to please not change the room type due to our family size. Upon arrival, they tried to give us a large room with two queen beds and pull out sofa bed. When we explained we booked in Golden based on the room availability and pool for kids, they did offer a complimentary second room. However, we would have booked elsewhere closer to Lake Louise or Banff if we had known what we were in for.

The rooms were dated for sure, and instead of a queen bed, we got two doubles in each room. I would have opted for the two queens, had I also known that was the outcome, as in the end our sleep was terrible and it meant for a less than great start to the next day.

The pool was okay, and the kids enjoyed it for about 20 minutes as it was quite small and not exciting after a few slides (ages 8 and 10). I would definitely book somewhere more exciting if you are headed for the rockies. The price wasn't worth it to me - nor was the complimentary room - but I did appreciate the manager's effort to rectify the situation.

My recommendation? If you book through any site, including a central reservations line, is to call the hotel directly if you have specific needs to ensure that they are met. We are usually pretty flexible, but when it comes to our bed requirements for a family of five, we get grumpy if someone would otherwise end up on the floor through no fault of our own.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back of the hotel have a nice view and no traffic noise.

Dear Sarah

Thank you for your review of the Days Inn Golden. I must commend you for your advice about checking with the hotel; we are all too dependant on doing everything on-line. Although the problem is being corrected we are having difficulties with several websites not updating the information and photos we have provided them. If you view the websites you will see identical photos for different room types. When we converted to Days Inn different photos were submitted but the webmaster used the same photo on several room types. Likewise many direct dial operators are there to "sell a room" and get revenue for their employer. They do not convey their promises to the booked hotel.

Our basic room types are either 2 queens or 1 queen-1 double-and an efficiency kitchen. Since April 2013 we have not had any guest rooms with two doubles. Although we are constantly updating our guest rooms our newer rooms face west and are closer to the highway. So far 6 of our guest rooms in the older wing have been fully refurbished. Southerly view rooms and efficiency units are all in the older wing. We do not have any beds older than 20 months.

Maybe we missed the new addition, but our room was horrible. We spent 12 nights in British Columbia and Alberta in wonderful hotels, but the Days Inn in Golden was not one of them. It was old, dated and depressing. After inquiring about a locked door (not the usual adjoining room door), we were given a key and found a small kitchenette that was pathetic.

I am so confused by all the glowing reviews (which I read before I booked) that I even wonder if we are writing about the same hotel.

Don't ever stay here!

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else!

We chose this hotel as it was close to Alpine Rafting where we were heading the next day.
I had booked a room on the side facing away from the highway but was given a room in the new section closer to the highway. It was a nicer room and we did find that if we kept the air conditioner on it masked the road noise.
Keurig coffee maker in the room is a nice feature. We also like the fact that the sink and counter were outside the bathroom making it easier for two people to use amenities simultaneously.
Pool was not very big, mainly there to entertain the little ones in the hotel, it is set in a separate building. we did not use it.
View from the property is nice from the restaurant or if your room faces away from highway. A nice two person wooden swing on the grounds is a nice spot to sit while enjoying the view
Food in the restaurant was good. We ate dinner and breakfast there. The wait staff were not very attentive or friendly even though the restaurant was almost empty and at each meal we needed to remind them of items they had forgotten. Would be nice if breakfast was included with the room (possibly include basic breakfast with option to upgrade).
We had big horned sheep to admire on the property during our stay.

Room Tip: There is a new wing with nicer amenities but it is closer to the highway. Use the AC to mask highwa...

We stayed overnight and were glad we chose this hotel! The view is adorable, the hotel and our room was quiet and comfortable, plenty of parking and microwave+fridge (for some reason, I thought there was no fridge nor microwave cause I couldn't get the door open - my fault!!!!). The staff is very friendly and helpful. The only thing that needs to be improved is the cleanliness. The bedding was clean, as well as the towels, but the washroom wasn't clean at all. And there is a smelly carpet on the floor.

We had planned on being home but because of extremely poor visibility on the Trans-Canada, my husband and I were forced to stay in Golden. We used this site to look at different hotels and the only one not booked full was the Days Inn. We were weary because of the other reviews. We called anyhow and booked a room. They are pricey and breakfast is not included but we were given a ground level room in the back because there is more parking there. The front desk night person wasn't too polite but we could overlook it since we'd been driving for 12+ hours. The room was fairly big with a kitchenette and large bathroom. It was well maintained and clean. Each room has a Keurig coffee machine which was a bonus.

In a quick bind, this hotel was very good and there is a pool and it is in a good location. We've had good experiences with all the Days inns we've stayed at and strongly recommend them.

We were returning from Kelowna BC and we just phoned them and surprised they have room. For $160 with Kitchenette two bedroom hill view location really good. Hot tub and swimming pool really good when some one tired from long drive. Really nice stay.
