“World Class Skiing and amazing accomodations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2011

Wow! We went to Kicking Horse Mountain and discovered some of the best skiing in Canada. The snow quality and fresh powder is amazing. We had a 2 bedroom (Unit #49?) with a pullout couch and it was fully self contained with washer/dryer, heated floors in kitchen and bathroom were a pleasant surprise. HUGE HUGE deck that we enjoyed our private hot tub on while looking out an the view of the mountains. There is a great BBQ that made for some wonderful meals. We even had underground parking. We WILL definitely be back. Affordable great skiing with the family..WOW

Thank you for your review of the Aspens from your stay during the 10/11 ski season. We had an unbelievable year with record snow and along with that powder days. The Aspens are a wonderful place to stay, especially if you’re looking for the privacy and amenities that they have to offer. Let's hope for another excellent 11/12 season and we look forward to having you back.

I didn't realise I had to contact the hotel directly to obtain a door code after having booked through Expedia. But the staff dealt with my panic phone call well and after scanning in a signed rental agreement with credit card pre-auth details, they provided me with the door codes by email.

We arrived mid June 2011 and found the entire resort shut like a ghost town! Even though the Palliser Lodge (on the way from Aspens down to the Day Lodge) had a memo up to say a couple of the restaurants should be open, they weren't. Fortunately we were prepared with food to cook for dinner so we didn't starve. However in a bid to find beer, we marched the length and breadth of the Kicking Horse resort. The only pub ('Our Hero' pub) and the general grocery store were shut, the only other option to find a liquor store or bar was to drive down the mountain. However none of us wished to mingle with the transient types we saw in Golden proper. So bad luck on our part as we arrived out of season, but it guaranteed privacy as we and one other couple were the only ones staying at the entire resort!

On the other hand the resort itself looks fairly young and all the properties within the resort (including the Aspens which was only 2 yrs old) are stunningly beautiful. Very rustic but with all mod cons.

We had unit 33 at the Aspens, which is a 2 bedroom luxury condo with underground parking, a large outdoor decking with an 8 person hot tub, garden dining table and 4 chairs, a lounger bench and a BBQ. Compared to our last location (Douglas Fir Resort in Banff) the kitchen and dining area was big. On the flip side, the bedrooms were cosy with just enough room to walk around the double beds (think 8 x 11ft). No expense was spared with the decor, furniture and kitchen appliances though. The owner of the unit, Brian, left a comprehensive condo guide which was very helpful. So is the official website: http:--------------------------------

The weather was kind to us and we were able to sunbath the whole afternoon. The girls enjoyed the hot tub with uninterrupted views of snow capped mountains. BBQ was easy to fire up. We had several bear sightings from the decking. The bears would be nonchalantly munching on grass or flowers even when they realised they had an audience. Although the bears appeared docile, we didn't take any chances of getting too close by walking off our fenced decking.

WiFi was fast and easy to connect. Newer model LCD TVs in lounge and in each of the bedrooms with satellite channels. The lounge had awesome Bose 5.1 surround sound system and a small library of DVDs. Plenty of old fashioned board games and decks of cards to while away the evening if one is so inclined.

There was one bathroom which was spacious with plenty of space for the girls to decamp toiletories. Complimentary Aveda bath products were provided (shampoo, conditioner, lotion & soap). An abundance of high quality designer towels were made available for guests.

We did some laundry and used the full size washer dryer and appreciated the laundry powder left by the owner.

Wonderful overnight stay and if we ever visit Golden again, we'd not stay anywhere else but at the Kicking Horse Resort. Expensive but worth it!

Room Tip: Request Unit 33 at the Aspens

That’s fantastic. Thank you for the in-depth review of your recent stay with us at the Aspens at Kicking Horse. These private, self-catered units are very popular not to mention having your own private hot tub. I do apologise for the minimal resort amenities during your stay with regards to a General Store and Restaurant. Many thanks for the review.
