“Had a great time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2011

We decided at short notice to take a trip to Hope and were lucky enough to be able to stay in the Eagle Room at High Hopes. We were told when we booked about the trains passing past the house and didn't feel this would be a problem. We barely noticed and when we did it was a novelty as this is not a common experience for us. We had a great time, the views are breathtaking, the rooms are lovely and the breakfasts were perfect - particularly the pancakes and french toast! We will definitely be recommending this place to friends!

Room Tip: Eagle Room has an amazing view!

It was our pleasure. We hope you will visit us again and the next time, fingers crossed that the weather is as obliging as it was last weekend.

Our first time to Canada, we took ourselves on a road trip from Calgary to Vancouver. We got as far as High Hopes in Hope and loved it that much we binned going to Vancouver. What a great place, outstanding views and a nice quiet town. Can’t wait for our return trip for more of Larry’s French toast, Blackberry wine from Pauline and hopefully we will have another bear on the door step. Great to share breakfast with people from different parts of the world and the hosts. Thank you very much, David & Sarah, Northern Ireland.

We stayed at the Whistler suite. The view from the balcony was truly spectacular. The rain shower was really great too. However, we didn't know that there was a local train track underneath the house! It was pretty loud but the train didn't run very often. The bed and breakfast also provided ear-plug for light sleeper (very thoughtful)

My wonderful husband surprised me with a fabulous stay in the Whistler Suite for my birthday while traveling to BC for two weddings. This B&B is absolutely perfect! The hosts make sure that you are very comfortable and they are extremely friendly. The suite is very modern, clean and private with a spectacular view of Hope and the mountains. Returning from our round of golf they had a bottle of wine in the room for us and in the morning for my birthday, breakfast on the balcony in our plush robes and slippers that they provide. We would return in a heartbeat and I highly recommend this B&B... it's PERFECT!

We stayed here while traveling with my sister and her husband. Upon arrival we were greeted with tea, coffee, and friendly conversation with our hosts. The B&B is a new home overlooking the little town of Hope and the rooms are quite comfortable. We enjoyed our breakfast conversation so much that we found it hard to leave.

Room Tip: The Eagle room has the best view- although there is some train noise in it.

Stayed here Aug. 6th 2011, and was impressed by how it was presented on the website. So we booked the Whistler suite. I'll start with the good. It is every bit as good as it looks on the website, clean, new, and well finished. It is situated in a beautiful setting with a great view. The hosts were friendly and welcoming.
For us however there were a few negatives.
We had the overwhelming feeling of being in someone else's house.
There was no in-room coffee.
The balcony was not exclusive to the suite, so we slept with the slding door locked and the blinds drawn.
It was unconfortably hot in the room at night.
We had to eat breakfast at other peoples convenience.
But the absolute worst for us was the fact that this B&B is built 100 meters up the cliff from the CN railway line. I can tell you that the 2 AM train has approx. 140 cars, and the locomotives are at the front, middle, and end of the train. There were many trains through the night. I came out of there tired and angry the next morning. There is no mention of this on their website, and the railway was there in 1914.
For me this is 'lying by omission', and not good business practise.
If you can sleep through anything, this will not be an issue.

Bed and Breakfasts are private homes that owners have opened up to the travelling public to offer them warm and personal accommodation. Most guests welcome the opportunity to share their experiences with other travellers around the dining room table at breakfast time. Coffee, tea or juice is delivered to the Whistler suite each morning on request. The Eagle and Bear rooms have accessibility to a sitting room which has coffee and tea making facilities.

The 50' balcony, which is approx. 20' above the steep mountainside, is only accessible from the Whistler suite and the owner's living area, so security is definitely not an issue.

Now, about the trains. The train line IS clearly visible on our website map and earplugs are supplied in all our nightstands for light sleepers. Most small towns in Canada have trains passing through them and Hope is no exception. Our international guests all love the trains!

What can I say, we just loved this little piece of Heaven. My husband and I stayed at a number of B&B's on our tour of Canada but we got as far as Hope and fell in love with it.
High Hopes is exactly what we wanted from a B&B and so much more. Larry and Pauline are the perfect hosts. They welcomed us into their beautiful home which they take so much pride in and it shows.
The rooms are of a very high standard with our own bathroom and balcony and a seperate shared sitting room with fridge and kettle if we wanted to do our own thing. Also if we wanted to go and sit with our hosts we were made very welcome.
The views from High Hopes are stunning we were very lucky on our first night on arrival we had a black bear come to visit. It was amazing. We also got to see the eagles and lots more.
Breakfast was the best time, Larry and Pauline would arrange everything around the guests and this included what we wanted to eat which was great. I just loved the french toast. We all sat together and got to know all the guests and our hosts joined us which was fantastic. Chef Larry was just great making all the eggs to order.
Pauline takes such pride in her home and always there to offer help in anyway she can. This was of great help to us.
We highly recommend a stay here with Larry and Pauline. We will be back again with our children next time.
Thanks xx
