“Beautiful Rooms - Paper Walls”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Stayed 2 nights in the newly remodeled 'Rapunzel' room. Beautiful room with granite countertops, wood floors and beautiful french doors overlooking downtown Nelson. Would love to give them 2 more stores, but unfortunately the remodel is also part of the problem. There is absolutely zero soundproofing between the rooms. The first night the TV next door was so loud (plus being wall mounted) it was like we were inside a speaker. Second day, it was like our room and the room next door shared the same bathroom. EVERY sound seemed like the person was in a public stall right next to you. If, when, they get the soundproofing fixed this will be a great place to stay.

We are sorry you found the walls thin - what may have contributed to this is the fact that underneath you is a third floor renovation with zero sound proofing under your floor at this point. Within a few weeks we should have the insulation installed and covered with drywall which should assist immensely.

We are glad you found them to be beautifully redone. We are proud of how they have turned out.

Thanks for staying with us.

My first stay at the Hume and I loved it. The staff was friendly and helpful in answering all questions and making recommendations. The restaurant and lounge were inviting with great menus. And the renovated rooms on the fourth floor are beautiful and spacious.

The only reason I'm not rating it higher at this point is because of the third floor renovation work. At check-in, we were informed of the work being done and fully expected the noise levels to be elevated. But the noise was so excessive that we could not be in our room during the day. We could easily hear normal level conversations between the workers on the floor below. I hope this is not a foreshadowing of the soundness between rooms when the renovations are completed.

Our apologies for the third floor noise. We have been up front with everyone when making a reservation that from now up to July we are putting the finishing touches on the third floor. The noise goes from 9am to 5pm. We do not have the sound barrier in between floors as of yet so it is noisier than it will be once we are completed.

The new phase features nine gorgeous new rooms along the front and west wing of the third floor. By July, 2/3 of all the guest rooms will be completely renovated. Heritage Rooms are still available to rent (unrenovated rooms) at a lesser price if that is more in a person's budget.

Thank you for the review. We are happy to hear that you loved everythihng with the exception of the construction noise.

Is the second time I stayed at the Hume, and I really like it.
There are two not very good poin:first, the bathtub is small and depends on your room, can be very noisy in the morning.
Important to mention the amazing breakfast and the good service.

We only spent one night at The Hume on a road trip for the May long weekend but it was a lovely hotel. The renovations are still ongoing but the 4th floor is finished and is absolutely beautiful. Our double queen room was roomy well decorated and the beds are so comfy. Our breakfast was included in the price and we ordered from the menu so everything was hot and fresh and yummy. The staff were so friendly and helpful just great people. Giving us information on the history of the hotel and just letting us poke around and look at the old place, great fun. I recommend the upgrade well worth the money. Thank you for everything will look forward to staying here again when we go through Nelson.

Room Tip: 456 is very nice and quiet

I recently had the pleasure of spending my anniversary at The Hume Hotel and I can't say enough how much I enjoyed my trip. The staff were amazing, from the lovely front desk ladies to the manager of the hotel. The rooms were beautifully renovated and I highly recommend the upgrade. Thank you so much for everything!

Room Tip: Stay on the 4th floor until it's all completely renovated.

Stayed at the Hume Hotel for the first time since 1983. Everything was excellent EXCEPT ...DO NOT STAY THERE IF THE BASEMENT NIGHT CLUB IS OPEN. Between the boom, boom, boom, from the basement and the parking lot street fight below our room window, I barely slept. Everything else was fine. This hotel has to clarify its business model: what does it want to be? An upscale boutique hotel OR Nelson's hottest nightclub. YOU CAN'T HAVE BOTH.

P.S. also do not get a massage in the Spa unless you want to be educated by the masseuse ad nauseum on extraterrestrial conspiracy theories. I can't make this up.

Room Tip: Stay on the 4th floor if possible. Our 3rd and 2nd floor rooms were tired.

Thanks for the review. If 1983 was the last time you stayed here, that was also the last year that we did not have a cabaret in the basement. In 1984, we opened the doors to what was then called 'The Boiler Room'. The Spiritbar is now only open on weekends and various other select dates.

We always tell everyone that on Friday and Saturdays we have a popular pub and nightclub and that we simply can't guarantee quiet rooms on weekends. I checked your reservation and it was noted that you were reminded of this upon making your reservation. We verbally tell everyone this and if reservations are made electronically, it is also mentioned in the confirmation. If this is going to be an issue for anyone, we recommend staying at a quiet property that does not have a bar scene like the Best Western Plus Baker Street Inn which is located 3 blocks away right on Baker and is not burdened by this type of noise ever.

It also appears from your photos that you were staying on the second floor. This past winter, for only $20 more a newly renovated room on the fourth floor could have been rented out. These rooms are definitely our quietest and the farthest away from bar and traffic noise - and they are beautifully redone!

Our sincere apologies about your sleepless night as well as your experience in the spa. That spa no longer exists as it is being converted into new guest rooms on the third floor. We have plans to build a brand new spa in the future. Our next nine deluxe rooms will be available by July 2013. Therefore, this summer nearly 2/3 of our guest rooms will have been completely gutted and renovated.

It sounds like everything else was "great" so it's too bad we got such a low score but we fully understand. We hope you at least come and visit Nelson again in the future.

I stayed at the Hume a couple weekends ago with my husband and son when we were on a short weekend getaway from our home in Spokane. The room renovations they have done are beautiful! Always great service from their staff--we alway enjoy eating at their restaurants too and would recommend this hotel/restaurants to anyone traveling to Nelson.
