“should have stayed longer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2014

This was our 5 time at Ocean sands and we stay a day longer every year and it is never ever long enough. Next year we are going to stay for a whole week! The owners are very friendly and helpful and take pride in what they do. Fires on the beach at night are a great touch to our stay and we went to the pub just down the beach where kids are very welcome. All in all the stay was excellent just not long enough!

Room Tip: We stayed near the playground when the kids were little but now that they are older we stay near the...

We just got home from our first visit to this place. I am already planning when we can return. It was the best vacation our young family has had so far. Relaxing, beautiful, fun. The beach is the main attraction and what we loved was that it wasnt mobbed and there was so much sand! And the warm water! Very surprising!
At the resort we were happy to talk with other families and our daughters made some quick new friends. The pool and hot tub were a nice change at the end of the beach day. The playground is also a nice touch.
I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the units were, how accommodating and attentive the staff were, how close everything was the water and that I could see the ocean from my table, which I loved. We were in a ground floor unit on the lawn, perfect for kids.
If you have kids and you enjoy miles of sand and ocean, this is a lovely place to come!

On a tourr of the island Ocean Sands provided a good away from it all feel. The bedroom was spacious and the location perfect for access to the miles of beach. Ocean Sands is well located within 5 minutes drive to nearby Parksville. We were able to take advantage of good room rates and the site felt secluded and secure.

We enjoyed a very large, one bedroom unit overlooking the ocean, just 30 feet from the beach. We had everything anyone could want/need: well equipped kitchen, huge TV, fireplace, patio, barbecue. It was very quiet; the view was spectacular. We liked being near the beach instead of up above by the pool and large grassy area with playground. But both areas are great! I highly recommend Ocean Sands Resort.

Room Tip: definitely as close to the beach as possible; the rooms numbered in the 300's have patios plus...

My two adult children and I recently stayed at the Ocean Sands Resort for two nights. The staff were friendly and accommodating from check-in to departure. Our unit was comfortable with a lovely view overlooking the bay and beach. We like the option of cooking at least some meals on vacation, and the kitchen was very well equipped.

The rental units vary somewhat as they are privately owned and rented through the Resort who take care of bedding and other standards. Some have been renovated, new engineered wood floors, comfortable furniture, beds, bedding. There are two areas, upper area around the grass and pool, swing set-- perfect for families. Mostly pool view and probably some sea view.

The lower area of the property where we stayed consists of two three-story wood frame stucco buildings. Potentially noisy if you are in the lower or middle level in high season. The end units of each building are bedroom-only with electric fireplace, balcony or deck and bathroom. Each floor has two center units. They appear to be one {or two?} bedroom units, each and kitchen / living areas. Spacious areas, fireplace, basic useable kitchens, large windows, balcony or outside access on ground floor units. Dated? Yes. Basic plumbing fixtures, floorboard heaters, etc. Really odd bedroom furniture in both units that we rented. These are minor considerations when you relax in this reasonably-priced Resort. Lovely, helpful management and staff.

Must be noted that when staying in the two lower beach view buildings, accessibility to the beach or the parking lot is compromised by an elevator system. For example if you are on the second or third floor you must take the elevator down to the ground level to access the beach. Ditto with access to your car.

Beach access via cement steps.

This resort is sandwiched in with all the others along Resort Drive but feels very private.

Room Tip: Families with small children: better to choose poolside so they can run about. Couples beware of s...

We returned to Ocean Sands for a second time in the last three months, a present from our son for a two night stay. The first unit we checked into was terrible, musty, fireplace didn't work, however, we called the office and Darcy came down right away and gave us another option and got the fireplace going. We chose the new unit and it was fantastic and private. Darcy and Kristie are awesome and want to make sure we enjoyed our stay. We have a fantastic time and will certainly come back again. (Apparently the first unit we stayed in had just sold and should be updated soon so that is good to know for the future as well). Reasonable price, comfortable bed, great decor in the new suite and very private. Warning: We did go to the new non-tipping restaurant at Pacific Shores, Smoke and Water, and the food was disgusting, had to send it back and so did a couple of tables near us. We normally never send anything back and had loved the previous Landing Restaurant. I do not think I have ever had a more terrible meal. They need to work things out or they will not survive,
