“Excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2014

As we drove in from Alberta, we knew we would be late reaching the hotel. The staff informed me of their timings and also made a back-up arrangement for check-in, in case we got delayed. That was quite a relief for me. We ultimately did end up reaching there on time.
When I started talking to them about our arrival time (prior to doing the reservation), I also managed to get a great deal on the rates.
Hotel was quiet in April and that meant great personal attention and quiet surroundings. Great view of the mountains from our room, they were cleaned everyday and the breakfast was nice. Breakfast being open up to 10 am meant I could get up late without worrying about missing the breakfast. Arrangements for check-out was explained well, as we had to leave before 5 AM to catch the ferry from Nanaimo, BC.
The hotel's location is excellent, close to BC 4 to drive to Pacific Rim National Park and is also close to shopping malls and good restaurants.
We are definitely keen to return there in the peak season and my hope is that the service will still be the same, which would then definitely let me upgrade this rating!

Room Tip: Speaking to them prior to booking really helped me a lot in getting optimum value. Staff were super...

We ended up booking a room here for two nights over xmas. We did not make a reservation in advance as we had other arrangements which fell through last minute. There was a room available and we were given a great rate. Our host even gave us a portable fireplace to make the room warmer since we had chosen an end room. Breakfast was included. It was minimal but everything we needed to start our day. This hotel is older and nothing fancy but clean, friendly and accommodating. I will definitely book here again when visiting this town.

Horrible mildew, no ventilation, lobby light full of webs and spiders. Only thing good was the staff. Way over priced for what you get. Worst hotel I have ever stayed at, and have travelled extensively. Would stay in a tent over this hotel, as even the shower in the bathroom was horrible. Beds are short and very soft, your feet hang over, and Im not tall.

I'll start off by saying if you're looking for something close to downtown and all the shops and restaurants, this is definitely not it. My boyfriend & I backpacked through the island, and with walking everywhere, we were disappointed with the Hojo's location in proximity to where all the action is. We had to cab downtown and back. That being said, we weren't disappointed by the service or rooms! The front desk staff was very helpful when we had questions about locations, food, and good restaurants in the area. Since it poured rain and stormed the entire evening, we stayed in our room, ordered in from a local Chinese place, and watched TV. The room was very clean, shower had excellent water pressure and temperature, and we overall had a great stay. Not the Hojo's fault it has a crappy location.
