“Simple place for fish and chips”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012 via mobile

When in BC, I have to stop for fresh fish & chips bc Im from landlocked Alberta.

There were 3 of us so we tried 3 types of fish with their 3 types of "coatings":
1) Cod in traditional english batter (a bit too greasy)
2) salmon in crispy panko crumbs (better)
3) halibut, flame-grilled; no coating... (surprisingly my favorite!)
We all tried a bit of each others and although I originally wanted traditional battered, the flame grilled halibut was the best :)

“Fantastic place for lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

We saw their 'now open' sign from the street and decided to have lunch there. I had Caesar salad and grilled halibut with lemon dill sauce. It was excellent, very flavorful. Be aware, they give you A LOT OF fries if you order chips.

“Awesome fish, but”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

We all (4 of us) tried different fish prepared different ways and it was excellent! But the chips left something to be desired. They were soft and almost tasted like they had been dehydrated, then fried. Great coleslaw, the sunflower seeds were a really nice and crunchy addition. Cesar salad was good. The grilled salmon was my favorite. The panko crusted option was really nice and crunchy.

“Best fish and chips!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

We stopped off for supper on our way home from a day at Sproat Lake. We had read that this was a good place for fish and chips on TA. It was well worth the stop - loved the fact that you can choose how you want your fish done (beer battered, panko crusted or grilled). The servings were plenty large and the service was excellent, particularly since we had a large group of ten. Definitely a great place to stop to get your fish and chips fix!

“Great Fish on the way to Tofino!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

A great place to eat when travelling to and from Tofino. We happened upon Bare Bones by accident and are very happy that we did. The fresh grilled salmon burger is fantastic and the fish and chips are excellent, and among the best batter we tasted on our trip through to Tofino. The service is excellent and the restaurant is located in a nice old church for added atmosphere. We will definitely stop on the next trip through Port Alberni.
