“friendly and nice restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

Booked this hotel as a stop over for the night on the way home to Victoria, BC. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly. We also had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant which is attached to the hotel. I believe it is a family run business and the food in the restaurant was very nice as well as being reasonably priced. We had an enjoyable time exploring Princeton as well as we had never taken that route before. The Similkameen Valley is worth driving through. It is beautiful.

The colourful hanging flower baskets are the first clue that this older property is very well maintained. Phone reservation and check-in were the friendliest I've ever had. The metal key was a flashback in time. Most (if not all) rooms are entered through the outside of this motel. The doors have chains but no deadbolts, however, I never felt unsafe.

The rooms were slightly small but newly furnished. HDTV, jumbo-size bar fridge, wardrobe/dresser, microwave, and coffee-maker looked very new. Bathroom was very bright, white, and clean with newish fixtures.

The double beds had the old-fashioned bedspread over yellow polyester blanket combination but were very comfortable.

There was a busy restaurant attached to the hotel that did a roaring breakfast business, probably due to its $4.95 special of 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 bacon/sausage or 1 slice ham.

The hotel attracts one night travellers, as it is 90 minutes to the next town (in all directions). There are also miners and other resource-based workers who will stay for longer stretches at a time. Don't worry about the workers, though, as there is no bar close to the hotel, so the "yahoo" types will be staying elsewhere.

Next time I'm in Princeton, I'll stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay last night. The room was spotless and the front desk staff was very friendly and efficient. We'd requested 2 extra pillows and she had made sure they were waiting for us in the room. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet, we faced the highway but didn't hear any noise above the a/c. The toiletries smelled great too!

I stayed her recently for business and was pleasantly surprised with the interior and the modern amenities. While the outside leaves much to be desired, as it is tired and old looking, the inside more than makes up for it.

Can't understate that the outside made me think it would be a dive, but after getting inside and being greeted by the very friendly and professional staff I was very happy with my stay. Wifi was good, food at the Denny's was great and the area was easy to navigate though a rental cat is recommended.

Biggest thing to be improved is the exterior....needs a lot of grounds work....but I would happily return.

Room Tip: Don't let the outside turn you away

We booked ahead for our one night stay and were quoted just under $100 for a queen room. When we arrived, we were "upgraded" to a suite for the same price. It was clean and comfortable, though a bit noisy with highway traffic. Attention to detail makes this motel better than some we have stayed in. The owner/operators are on site. They are very welcoming and courteous at the front desk. While getting coffee in the morning, I happened to overhear the owner giving instructions to a new employee. She clearly emphasized health and safety, responsibility, and cleanliness.
The lobby is clean and bright, and off the lobby is an entrance to a good little family restaurant. Our tv remote did not work, and it was replaced right away. In the room, there were china mugs and real drinking glasses instead of the ubiquitous paper variety. Although this is an older building, there are power bars in the room to easily access charging up for electronics. The location is uphill from town, great for en route sleepovers. The setting is near a nice neighbourhood, perfect for an evening stroll in the summer. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for what suits you. There are ground floor rooms with parking right in front, and rooms upstairs...

I work in Princeton every weekend during the summer, so I choose to stay at the Sandman. The service is excellent, and there is always a room reserved for me. I like the cleanliness of the rooms, the comfy beds, and the location of the hotel. Definitely recommend this hotel to others.

We recently stayed in Princeton to visit family. We chose the Sandman because it always comes highly recommended. We were absolutely thrilled by the hotel, the staff, and the newly renovated rooms are super clean and quite modern, with very comfy beds, and the restaurant is great for breakfast and any other meals you need. The outside garden area is wonderful with lots of flowers and 2 fountains which is great to relax in and watch the deer come to eat. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for excellent accomodations at a great price. Special thanks to the managers Judy, Warren and Angela who took excellent care of us while we stayed there.
