Sidney has more restaurants per capita than anywhere else I can think of. Virtually all of them are on or just off the main drag, Hylands is quite some distance from the commercial area, and caters mostly to locals. It's small - seats 30 at 8 tables, and it's popular. Get there between noon and 1 and you won't get a seat. They do a lot of take-out in evenings and during the day in summer. Not much in the way of atmosphere, and noisy - everyone knows everyone else, and they talk back and forth - loudly. The food is pretty good - the fish is excellent, and other seafood close to excellent. Fries are uneven - it depends how hot the oil is. If it's not hot enough, they're greasy, and we've had that experience. If you order yam fries, take care with the dip - it's pretty spicy. Prices are average, but the portion of cod is generous, halibut less so.
