“Lovely area, lovely hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2008

We stayed at the Sidney Pier just a few weeks ago for a wedding.

Location is amazing - it is exactly where the name of the hotel says it is - at the Sidney Pier!! I stone's throw from all the lovely places that Sidney has to offer.

Great staff - extremely friendly !

Lovely artwork all over the hotel - with featured artists each month. I really enjoyed how they showcase local talent.

The rooms are nice and clean - lovely room with a nice view.

As for the area itself, I wished that there were more local gift shops that offered ocean-type of souvenirs - there are a lot of home decor shops (import items from all over), and aside from the salt spring soap store, there wasn't really much else.

That was a bit disappointing.

However, there are some nice locally made souvenirs in the hotel lobby and if you see it and wish to purchase a locally made souvenir - the lobby would be the place to get it.

My initial experience with this hotel was less than satisfactory as I encountered some major issues with booking online, being quotes a great rate, and then found the hotel would not honour it.

I am happy to report that upon making my unhappy experience known to the manager of the hotel, I experienced the best case of service recovery that I have had in a long time.

Instead of the standard "our apologies for how you were treated", the hotel, from the manager down, all seemed bent on making sure we had the best experience possible.

Our stay was divine. The food was wonderful, the spa excellent, and our room was everything we could have wanted and more. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and have done so since my stay there.

This hotel is simply perfect! Location and design can't be beaten. Staff are super friendly, the rooms are impeccable, beautiful, large, well equipped, very silent, with a beautiful view...and all for a very reasonable price.
We would go back to Canada just to stay in this hotel!!!

We stayed at this hotel overnight. We brought along our 13 month daughter. We phoned and asked if we could check in earlier than 4pm cause we were travelling with baby. They have strict rules about letting you check in earlier. At 10am we arrived via ferry from Vancouver and went to the lobby to ask if we could check in around 1pm and the girl said she would contact the cleaning staff to let them know we had arrived and to clean the room first. We checked back a few times but it still was not ready. Around 2:30pm I took the elevator upstairs and went to investigate to see if our room was ready. The cleaning lady said it was done. I snooped on our sheet and it said to do room between 1:30pm and 1:45pm. I went back downstairs and told the lady at the desk and she said it was not in the system yet and it had to be inspected first before we checked in. We finally checked in at 3pm. I felt that they could of switched us to another room or something since we were travelling with a baby. This Summer we have stayed at 2 other big hotel chains and I have to admit that they had really experience and more professional staff who were more helpful and let us check in much earlier due to the fact we were traveling with a baby. I don't think I would stay at this hotel again.

My husband and I stayed a the Sidney Pier Hotel and Spa from July 23rd-26th, 2008...we actually just returned home tonight!

We were there for our honeymoon and as newlyweds only married a week, we had wanted something really special. This hotel delivered! We did book in May as there are only guest 55 rooms. We arrived to find a beautiful room with modern decor and furniture....not 70's. It is definately a boutique type hotel which made for a fresh, fun, luxurious, beachy atmosphere.

They are a pet friendly hotel! Since we had our 11 mo old small puppy with us, they had carefully taken that into consideration and there awaiting him was 3 biscuits, a beautiful silver bowl and a bed that he adored. We cannot thank them enough.

Our only concerns were the beautiful shower which allowed water to escape through the bottom (that was fixed the same day we told them) and, at night there didn't seem to be alot of light in the room so we had every light on to play a board game we had brought. A pool would have been nice but apparently, chlorine is not eco-friendly. Instead they have a spa & fitness room though, as we explained to them, not everyone is going to or can afford to go to the spa. We were there to see the area, not spend hours in the spa but it was hot out!

Sidney was beautiful, though it is predominately a retiree town but is slowly spreading its wings to offer more to the 30+ age group. It is perfect for young families and the Island has much to offer. Victoria is a short 20-25 min away.

PLEASE...GO...check out Sidney, BC and the Sidney Pier Hotel & Spa. I really don't think you'll be disappointed! Will add photos soon.

  • Liked — Right on the water, beautiful views, close to BC Ferries, beautiful hotel
  • Disliked — No pool and not enough lighting in the room at night. Pool would have been a bonus but not a deal-breaker

A wonderful find for touring Vancouver Island. Not really far from Victoria if you have a car, and convenient for the ferry to Vancouver on the mainland. Relatively new hotel, excellent condition, beautiful decoration. Our room and bath were both large, very comfortable. A convenient guest laundry was a huge benefit to us in the middle of a long trip. Coffee shop on the corner of the building was great for breakfast or a snack (I don't know if there was a more formal breakfast service - would have been expensive). The staff were all very young, rather casual so maybe not well trained or not expected to be very formal -- like many young people in 'service' jobs these days, they spend more time talking to each other than noticing if a guest needs their help. But overall, a very pleasant stay. And in context of Canadian prices, with free parking this was a very good value. The village of Sidney is also very pleasant -- some nice shops, good restaurants at different price points, pleasant walking area at the edge of the sea.

  • Liked — Size and furnishing of room and bath.
  • Disliked — Price - wasn't bad, but of course cheaper is better.

We did not stay at this hotel, but saw it from the outside and ate at the restaurant. Actually at the bar because the restaurant was booked on a Tuesday evening before our flight the next day. Can only comment on the restaurant which was fabulous and very good.

I went and asked about room rates which sounded reasonable and dependet on whether room had full seaside view, partial view, or view of the backstreet.
