“A perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2011

At the far end of the Sidney pier, and across from the old-style fresh fish market is a shack, within which is a surprising little bistro. The views of straights and Gulf Islands are fabulous. The service is friendly and acceptably attentive. I've read reviews here that claim the food is lack-luster, but I disagree. The food is not fancy, but it is flavourful, comfortable, and well proportioned. And you cannot beat the ambiance. If you are a visitor to Sidney, the Pier Bistro is a must do.

“Nice view but....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2011

We came here for drinks and a quick bite. The food was just OK and the service wasn't the best. Way over priced. Again, the view was great.

“low end food,cheap ingrediants”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2011

As a chef, who has been around this is my take on The Pier Bistro.
if you order cod and chips ,you should know its not cod!!, as it states in the menu.
They use pollock in place of cod,but you are charged for cod !! Scam.
The seafood chowder has so much rue in it,of course made form canola oil and flour, its more like a stew not a chowder, the only seafood is canned clams.
The coffee is very bad, be nice to use fresh beans, not beans a few months old!!
The day/ breakfast cook uses the beef tallow oil from the deep fryer to make his scrambled eggs and for his omlettes. Yuk!!! Yuk!! get this, also uses the beef oil to grill his salmon and halibut!!!!
Their carrot cake is as tasty as the dried up seagull feces on the dock.
oh yes,the steak is priced at 25.00,its precooked because they don't know how to prepare it properly, almost bizzare isn't it?
Management and the cooks no very little about proper cooking or anything about good food.,in the right hands this could be a hot ,hot spot and a money maker.
Theres more but that should warn off anybody who knows good food from bad.
The serving staff are very pleasnat.

“Food, service & a view! Ole!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2011

Dropped in on a sunny but cold, windy day for lunch. Fish & chips for me, chowder & spinach salad for the Mrs. Most excellent! Cute decor & an outdoor patio for the warmer times.

“Who knew Crab Cakes were for Breakfast?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2010

My only experience at The Pier Bistro occured my last day on Vancover Island...and I will remember the perfection of the Crabby Eggs Benedict till the loons fly home. It was one of my top three breakfasts of all time. Don't go there if you are looking for linens and crystal...it's a tiny establishment at the end of the pier, adjacent to the Fresh Fish Market. The view is lovely of the harbor area and the decor is nautical...what else? The service was brought to you by the proprietor, Donna Mae, who is a basket of sunshine. My friends and I were there for breakfast before the departure of the local ferry, so I went for my last taste of seafood before returning to the states. I was not disappointed. Crispy, slightly sweet cakes of crab were nestled under the medium poached eggs and topped with the tangy hollandaise sauce. The side of home fries seemed to be baked, not fried. There was no greasiness to either dish. (I appreciate that first thing in the morning.) My friends also enjoyed the traditional Benedict served with a locally baked whole grain toast. Not sure why there was no toast with my meal. But who cares when you are savoring every single bite of crab, egg, hollandaise...breakfast heaven on a plate.
