“Very expensive, fees are increasing, service is decreasing, way too slow.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2014

You need to chop the ferry in half to make it go twice as fast. Its never full, and if the ferry would be half size, it would go faster and I would be willing to use it more often. 2 plus hours to get over to the island from vancouver? Come on BC ferries, i can take a flight from Vienna to Barcelona and I could be there sooner than the ferry going from Horseshoe bay to Departure Bay.

There is hardly any heat on any of the ferries, food on the ferry is expensive, and bc ferries fresh ice cream gives you runs.

Docking is unorganized and super slow. People/crew have no motivation on the ferries.

“Victoria in a Day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2014

BC Ferries website offers vacations package options. I selected a round trip ferry from the mainland and stayed in Victoria at the Chateau Victoria Hotel. The ferry& hotel deal was great, it was like getting the hotel for free almost! Chateau Victoria was very nice. We upgraded to a suite when we arrived as it was a great deal in the off season. The front desk staff were extremely helpful and informative about the area. They reminded us there was a hotel shuttle to take us downtown at our leisure. Would definately go back.

“Nice people working there”

We had a great experience on board the BC ferries. The people who work on the ships and on shore were all very helpful and guided us through with ease.

“Lifeline of Vancouver Island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014

I took the ferry 4 times; made friends and enjoyed my journey each time. Costs about CAD$75 for two passengers with car (one way) and $16 for single passenger on foot (one way). There are usually 8 trips per day (7am to 9pm, one trip every two hour- schedule subject to change) from each side. Ferries connect Swartz harbour in Vancouver Island (Victoria) to Tsawwassen ferry terminal in South Vancouver. After entering the ferry, you can go to deck 5, 6 or 7 and enjoy the rest of your voyage doing one of the many activities available on board. Cafes on deck 5 and 6 usually get crowded right after departure. Other facilities include work station, play station, restrooms, beautiful view from sun deck etc (usually not crowded). There are also bus connections by Ferry. Both sides have good bus (70 Victoria / 620 Vancouver / Pacific Coach) and taxi connectivity to Victoria and Vancouver respectively. The journey presents you with spectacular landscapes around. If you are lucky, you may also encounter whales. The experience is worth it nonetheless.
