I really wanted to like this place after reading the reviews. Clearly the new owners were trying to improve a previous bad image. But our visit didn't go well.
Our room had no TV remote, so I asked at the office for one. Our host brought a spare and tried desperately to make it work (we couldn't get cable, just one channel). We were very tired and said it was OK for the night - our host promised a solution. When we came back from our travels the next day he immediately appeared with a working remote and more apologies. We just wanted showers as the weather was extremely hot. That's when we noticed the room hadn't been cleaned - no fresh towels etc. I went back to the office to ask for towels. Once again our host came, full of apologies, and insisted on taking out the garbage. By this time we felt worse for his distress than for ourselves.
When we checked out the following morning he came running with a Tim Horton's gift card and more apologies, chastising himself for making a mistake with the housekeeping roster. When I looked at my receipt later I noticed it had the wrong room number listed, but I hadn't the energy to go back.
Good surprises were a comfortable bed with nice coverings, a new-looking shower curtain, and an efficient air conditioner. Not so good were the winged insects in the bathroom, which seemed to be entering through the window screen; and the cobwebs -and a huge Valentine's card! - in the closet.
Others have talked about the good location - it was easy to find and a Tim's, Wendy's and McDonald's in the same location for quick bites. It was quiet. The owner (?) was a very pleasant man doing his best to deal quickly with problems - I just wish they hadn't happened.
