“Far better 15 years ago!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

I have lived in Cobourg for over 25 years. The beach used to be awesome and a great place in the summer.
Unfortunately due to summer visitors, we try to avoid the beach at all costs.
We went down this afternoon for a visit with the kids and were appalled by what we saw.
BBQs and beer on the beach, garbage strewn all over, rude pushy people!
Bylaw enforcement is nil due to new rent a cops the town has contracted.

“Unenforced by-laws”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013 via mobile

Cobourg local, brought the kids down to the beach this evening.... non-locals BBQs and beer consumption on the beach. Local bylaw officer spoke with them but did not enforce the rules. This is the reason I avoid the beach all summer

“fabulous beach and people for the most part”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

i live in Cobourg and I am very proud of the beach and most people in the town. Seeing the review about abusive visitors strikes a cord for me regarding some of our more unwelcoming residents of Cobourg who feel it is their God given right to dictate and dominate who should visit and on what conditions. Maybe if the atmosphere was more friendly towards visitors they would be more willing to contribute to our community without imposing fees. If someone comes to our town and feels unwelcomed they will not want to support our business'. The beach is for everyone , and should be opened for use by everyone. It sends a negative signal to outsiders and discourage them from coming to Cobourg if they feel that they are not wanted. Ignore the comment made by selfserving people and come one and all.

“I love this beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

This is my go-to beach after a client of mine tipped me off a few years ago. It's clean, and not too far from Toronto, just an hour and a half drive away. The sand is groomed and there are lifeguard stations. The water is clean and warmer than the beaches further east. Driving into town is nice too, some historical buildings that give it a nice touch. The boardwalk is pretty nice and the washrooms are clean.

I went this past Canada day weekend when they had the Waterfront festival. It was great, lots of vendors, great carnival food and rides. It was raining that day too and it was still packed! Days like those the parking was insane and hard to find a spot but it was so worth it. There was a firework display that went on for at least 15 minutes and was totally worth the wait in the rain! Love this place!

P.S.-Check out Oasis Bar and Grill after a long day at the beach for a pitcher of beer and live music

“Great beach but they should clearly advertise the no-bbqing rule”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

I've been to Cobourg beach several times before and have barbecued with propane tanks. This weekend we packed tons of meat and headed there. We paid $20 for parking (there was a festival on), and lugged all our stuff from the parking lot to the beach (beach parking was restricted to just festival volunteers), and confidently set up our barbecue, only to be told by park police that a new rule was in effect that did not allow barbecuing. This rule is now apparently in effect throughout all parks in Cobourg. I just wish they had clear signs posted at the beach entrance of this new rule so we wouldn't have lugged our stuff all the way down the beach, only to have to pack up and drive to Darlington so we could barbecue.

That being said, the beach really is lovely - clean water, no rocks, it's heaven on a hot day. Shaded areas, however, are hard to come by unless you go early and save your spot.
