Treat yourself to outstanding game, seafood and steak or try our Summer Monday Bistro menu with gourmet pizzas, wings and ribs. The Norsemen has a reputation for great food and great times.Whether nibbling before a stone fireplace in the dining room or out on the screened-in porch, delight in a diverse menu beginning with appetite-enhancers like Baked Woolich Goat Cheese or Lobster Ravioli. Inhale the Pinot Noir and Blueberry Bison Striploin, Greek Style Rack of Lamb, Thai Glazed Back Ribs or Filet of Pickerel in a white wine butter sauce, considered relaxation-enhancing substances in six provinces. Stretch the languorous evening further by swaddling appetites in decadent desserts like our Warm Chocolate Brownie, which performs its tongue ballet in tandem with hot fudge sauce and french vanilla ice-cream and finish off perfectly with a cappuccino encore.(please note the chefs changes the menu whenever he feels like it, so some items mentioned may not be available all the time)

“Best Birthday at the Norsemen”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

I recently celebrated my birthday at the Norsemen. It was a wonderful evening filled with great company, atmosphere and service. The food was to die for and Chef Dave was very charming! Les and Susie are always very gracious and accomodating. If you are looking for a fabulous evening out, the Norsemen is where to go.

“Location, location, location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

We were canoeing in Algonquin Park in an unseasonably cold and rainy September when we went to the Norsemen for dinner. The drive to it off the highway was probably quite scenic (we love gravel roads) but we saw little of it due to the pouring rain and dwindling light; too bad, because the restaurant has a beautiful screened patio seating area.

The title of the review is key. Had the Norsemen been located in the city, I would have felt a bit overcharged, but given its location, I am less critical. It can't be easy to keep an establishment like this afloat in its relatively remote location.

The decor is old time cottage, Lady Eaton "cottage", that is. Very nice, with seating well spaced for privacy. Service is excellent - a personal visit by the proprietor with many suggestions for further exploration of the area.

Okay, so I appear to be saving the food analysis for the last. That's just how I remember the experience. 3 of us had one of the "specials", Black cod (sable fish), an unusual find in most restaurants (non-Asian) was quite a surprise. The serving was impressive. Flavour? Very good IMO, although my wife found it a bit over salted. I had the "full rack" of ribs. Serving size and flavour were nothing special. Salads were adequate, and necessary, since the veggies with the entrees were tasty but minimal.

Okay, were the Norsemen in the city, I probably would not return, but were I in Algonquin Park, the Norsemen would definitely be considered.

Thanks for writing such a thoughtful and nice review. We're glad you enjoyed the scenic drive up to the decor and the excellent service we strive to provide. Happy you liked the black cod which is an unusual find in most restaurants. We like to offer "specials" that are a bit "off the beaten path", just like we are. We hope you come back again if you're ever up in Algonquin Park.

“Thanksgiving at the Norseman”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

We had a great meal at the Norseman after a day of hiking in Algonquin Park. Food was good. Enjoyed a turkey dinner with all the trimmings and lamb chops. We particularly liked the Sweet Potato-Pear soup. Our only complaint was that there were no options for our young children. Our seven year olds ended up splitting a pasta order and the kitchen was very accommodating.

“Beautiful Romantic Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

Out on a camping trip with my boyfriend and we were heading up to Ragged Falls. I red about the restaurant before hand and found the prices too high so it wasn't our first choice. We saw it on the way and decided to stop by. This restaurant experience was one of the highlights of our trip. Lots of character, very romantic, excellent food and service! You have to stop by if you are in the area. The price is well worth the experience and taste!

“Wilderness gourmet surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Visiting friends inHuntsville hosted a night out at one of their favourites.Found the atmosphere ;food quality and service a welcome surprise. We had 2 fish dishes both excellent and the Friday special; a schnitzel. All were delicately prepared and well presentred. My French onion soup was a good as I have ever had including France! Only let down was the Strawberries Romanoff which neither matched the menu description nor my understanding of the dish.Wine choice and pricing was very good.We would go again if in the area and recommend this quality establishment to others.
