“Beautiful natural surroundings in a peaceful scenic environment!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2010

My girlfriend and I were joined by another couple, close friends of ours, on our holiday weekend in February. We thoroughly enjoyed having a cabin to ourselves, complete with jacuzzi tub, modern appliances and best of all, the wood burning stove. While the unit didn't have a TV or DVD player in it, our hosts were more than willing to provide us with said items and did so at our advance request.
We arrived Saturday afternoon and once settled into our cabin, we donned our winter gear and headed out onto the frozen lake to take in the beautiful winter scenery - snow covered trees and lake, the sunset and deer wandering about, both on the lake and outside of our cabin!
Saturday night we opted to dine out at the Norsemen restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed their fine cuisine - appetizers, entrees and then dessert. Our wonderful hosts moved from table to table chatting with all the dining guests. The restaurant was but a short 2 minute walk from our cabin and in the evening, looked simply splendid from the outside, covered in snow and and tastefully decorated white Christmas lights.
On Valentine's Day, we again ventured out for a lengthy walk across the snow covered frozen Walker Lake and checked out all the fine cottages along the waterfront. The sunset was even more amazing Sunday night! Just prior to dinner, our guest couple announced their engagement, having dated for a number of years starting on Valentine's Day!!!
We then cooked our own supper using the propane powered barbecue situated outside our cabin door. As our steaks cooked nicely, we watched the deer move about right outside our cabin!!!
On Monday, we packed up and headed into Huntsville for brunch at a longtime establishment on the main street. After eating a fine meal there, we headed home.
All four of us readily agreed that we would be delighted to do the same thing again next year!

“Exactly what I wanted!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2010

I'd been looking for awhile for a place to take my boyfriend for his birthday weekend. I spoke to a client of mine who said she'd stayed at the Norsemen in the summer and had a great time. I found out they were winterized and booked a cottage for a weekend near the beginning of December. It was perfect. We stayed in the Maple cottage. It was cozy, and rustic and beautiful. The view of the lake was spectacular, and we even had a cute little fireplace. If you're looking for a quick and romantic getaway, I would definitely recommend it. The bonus is the French Restaurant. Don't leave without having dinner there. It was the icing on the cake!!

“Disappointed and will not return”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2009

We stayed at their Maple cottage which has two bedrooms, a jacuzzi, full kitchen and woodburning fireplace. The location of the cottage was great because it was just steps to the lake. The cottage itself was a huge disappointment for us. It has a weird smell. We were told to only use 1 appliance at a time. This means we could not use the microwave while the coffemaker is in use. Also, we noticed some mice droppings. The flooring of the whole kitchen area was not even. If you place an egg on the kitchen countertop, it will quickly roll all the way to the edge of the kitchen. The cottage felt like it was rundown and in need of major renovation. The bathroom was okay although I noticed peeling wallpaper near the jacuzzi. We paid $200 per night plus tax for the stay. I really don't think it was worth it. There are other cottage resorts in Muskoka which are so much better for the same price.

“A perfect view of the lake and the trees”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2009

In the Cedar Cabin at Walker Lake Resort, just a few feet from
the water, the huge front window stretches the length of the
long main room. Here, comfortable couches, chairs, tables, a
wood fire, and a large dining table allow for meals and games
within view of the lake. Separating the two bedrooms, with their
large closets and comfortable double beds, is the well-
equipped bathroom with large tub and shower. Although we were guests in January, summer occupation would be enjoyable, the beach and barbecue excellent for families. While full-course meals can be readily prepared in the cabin's open kitchen, the resort itself is home to The Norsemen Restaurant with the creative cuisine of chef Harvey Cross and its fine selection of wines and spirits. In winter, The Norsemen offers dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, while lunch is available on Saturday and Sunday. Summer hours for the restaurant will be posted in spring. Walker Lake Resort is hidden from the usual crowded vacation places: it is a special world of its own.

  • Liked — The privacy and view of the lake, along with the excellent Norsemen Restaurant.
  • Disliked — We were able to stay only four days; we'd like to return in the summer.

“A very merry Christmas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2009

We booked three cabins for over the Christmas period, each cabin was very clean and very comfortable. The couple who owns the resort were incredibly friendly and helpful. Each cabin had a wood burning fireplace with plenty of logs chopped and awaiting us. Beddings etc were all clean and plentiful. The cabins are all situated on a beautiful lake (which was frozen and had deer walking on it in the mornings)

Unfortunately due to the Christmas holiday the days we stayed, the restaurant was not open.

All in all we had a wonderful stay and can't wait to return in the summer.
