When it comes to vacationing and experiences, there is nothing like staying at a rustic but super clean cottage and a beautiful lake! Wanting more than a hotel stay, me and my fiance searched the the net and found The walker Lake Resort in muskoka. Its perfectly situated between Algonquin park and Huntsville, about just over 2 hours from Toronto.
I had called and spoke to Les which is the owner of this family run resort. he was friendly, very professional and accommodating both on the phone and again in person . One phone call was all it took to book our stay!
We stayed in the Maple cottage, its a beautiful 1+1 cottage that gave us plenty of space and privacy. It had a amazing view of the lake from the wall to wall windows, full kitchen with every item you would need(Inc wine glasses), TV and a DVD if you have time to watch since there is so much to do, wood burning fireplace, spacious bathroom with a huge jacuzzi tub, nice size deck with a propane BBQ, and a dock about 50 feet from the cottage on the lake!!
The dock is very private, perfect for reading the morning newspaper; sunning in the afternoon or star gazing at night. The nights were special for us, as we curled up with extra wool blankets on lounge chairs, all of which were provided. Coming from Toronto, it was a treat to see so many stars! My widow to the lakeside was usually open: in the mornings for the sounds of waves reaching shore or calming us to sleep. To awaken to blue lake and sky, feel warm winds softly blowing in through curtain sheers — this cottage is truly what "Heaven On Earth" is all about.
There is also a 5 star restaurant called Norsemen Restaurant. sadly we did not eat there. We live in a condo and I rarely have a chance to BBQ and so BBQ it was for us plus we eat out all the time back at Toronto, but from what I heard from other gust at the resort the food there is fantastic.
The Lake is the jewel of the resort . Its beautiful with amazing scenery and great clean water, plus lots of fish!!! Its great fishing and there are 2 motor boats, 3 canoes and 5 kayaks that could be used free of charge and with free gas to explore the lake. No matter what I say my words don't do justice for how beautiful this lake is, you have to see it for yourself.
Everyone that we meet there was sharing the same wonderful experience as us. It was great R&R for us and missed it as soon as we drove away.
We stayed there Aug /2012 and the last day we drove to Algonquin park since it was about 15 min from walker lake and had a wonderful time exploring the park as well.
It's a place we will visit again !!! Maybe this time in Fall :)
Thank you Les and Suzi for a wonderful stay!!
