“Great Dinner and a Spectacular Facility”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013 via mobile

Found this treasure by accident while looking for a place to eat. It is an amazing facility with a great view of Lake Simcoe. It is still owned by the Sibbald family! Food was excellent. Service was great. Everyone left happy. We will be back.

Happen to be in The Briars over last two weeks. The personnel were friendly and the rooms are clean and good. Overlooking the lake simcoe in jacksons point it has breathtaking view. The place is an hour drive north Tornt and has nice facilities...It has spa, swimming pools ( indoor) and nice sports room. The tower had a great view of the lake. The Bar was nice with a little patio , nice mahogany furniture makes the place a warm and welcoming. The best part of the visit was the gourmet meals and the lavish breakfast and lunch buffet. The menu changes every week so you never get bored. So if you plan t visit please get an all inclusive meal package, enjoy the great food, relish your talisker in the bar and simply relax!!! Nice place to unwind!!

Room Tip: Plan to visit the tower and the roms overlooking the lake are great!!

let me first say that the staff were excellent and the restaurant was very good. However, the grounds were unkept and the rooms need an upgrade. Call me old fashioned, but the "new environmental" look of letting the grass and weeds run wild doesn't work for me, it looks unprofessional and shoddy. The room in the main lodge was on the small side and clearly in need of new mattresses, bedding and towels. I like the location, please reinvest in this special property and restore it to its grandeur of the past.

Dear Tinker56,

It has been a struggle so far to keep the lawns cut with the constant rains this spring, and keeping everything looking as tidy as we'd like. We are in the process of updating our bedding in the Inn and think you'll be very pleased with the results when all done later this summer. Thank
you for your comments, we hope to have you back for a visit to let us know what you think of the
changes.

We stayed in one of the Inn Plus Guest Rooms which has a balcony that over looked the garden with a view of the lake. It had all the basic amenities any newer hotel would have, like a nice coffee maker, Wi-Fi and even bath robes. The TV never worked the entire time we were there (even with a couple complaints to the front desk). We were not there to watch television anyway so it was not a deal breaker. The bathroom could do with some updating though; it was showing its age. My wife had a deep tissue massage and enjoyed the Spa. The best part of the resort was the restaurant. The food was very good and the service was exceptional. Basically an old hotel with “character”, as my wife described it.

Location - just an hour's drive north of Toronto on a large property along the south side of Lake Simcoe. Pretty and scenic area.
Accommodations - I was there for work with about 20 others. We occupied most of the cottages where most of them are right on the lake. The cottages sleep anywhere from 2 to 8 people (I think) where each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with shared living room and kitchen. The cottages are about a 15 min walk along the road (no path) to/from the main inn. Most of the time, I'd just drive back and forth. There's parking available by the cottages as well. The cottages felt old and musty as opposed to rustic and quaint. We were there in unseasonably cool May weather and some of my colleagues said they were freezing at night as their heating wasn't working. The beds are covered with a thin blanket and 70s style bedcover. Each room does have a flat screen TV. And free wifi which was working well.
Amenities - I only had the opportunity to use the tennis court which was uneven and had cracks so the ball would bounce every which way. Didn't get to see the pool. And heard the golf course was fine.
Spa - had the Seawater Pearls facial which was fabulous! My skin was glowing afterwards. My favourite part of this getaway.
Food - we always ate buffet style as opposed to being served. It fared from okay to pretty good.
Service - was fine.
Value - not sure if it'd be worth paying the prices listed on their website as the cottages seemed more like 'roughing it' as opposed to one of 'Ontario's Finest Inns and Spas'. Overall, the place is showing its wear and tear and not quite as stunning as the photos on its website.

Very comfortable resort. They offer spa services which is a real treat for weary travelers. Thier food and overall service was excellent. We were on their American plan, which we thought was a very good value.

Came to The Brairs for a solo weekend by myself. It is the perfect spot for relaxation and rejuvenation. I had a wonderful time at the spa it is clean everyone is friendly but kind of simple.

The service is immaculate everyone is so nice and knowledgeable and ready to help at any moment.

The grounds and surrounding trails are beautiful and amazing for just walking around or serious running in the morning. I also really enjoyed the bikes that they have to offer their guests. They're good quality one speed bikes that are suitable for the surrounding flat area.

The old house, the tower, the roundhouse everything including the garden is just so much fun to explore and sit down and read a book.

I really enjoyed the boat rides offered by Andrew. But above all the food is amazing. I am a very picky eater with high expectations of menus and this one surpassed my expectations.

I will return someday probably with my partner. It is such a wonderful spot to go by yourself with a partner or even the children or loved ones. Great place also for a ladies weekend I saw a lot of women hanging out and having a blast.
