I went to the new Swiss Chalet on Ira Needles. Since they are new I knew the service would be slightly lacking and a little slow, but I was not expecting this. My kids and I were seated, and 2 minutes later another table was seated behind us. We waited 5 or so minutes and the table behind us had their order taken...we had yet to even been greeted by a server. Another 10 minutes pass, and a couple is seated at the table next to us...still haven't even had our drink order taken. The couple next to us, get their drinks and order taken and as I was about to flag the waitress down, she bolts in the other direction. 2 minutes later she returns, ignoring us again and giving drinks and taking orders from another table. I was finally able to flag her down just to ASK if she was my waitress. I explain to her that both tables around us had been served already even though we had been there much longer, and she looks at me like I'm an idiot for even mentioning it. She takes my drink order and it takes her over 5 minutes to bring them to us. She forgets 2 of 3 straws (not important for me, but when you have 2 littles ones straws are important) so she scurries off to get them...waiting....waiting....eventually she returns to finally take our order, no staws though. It is now getting close to 7 my kids are cranky so I ask for bread for myself to start but bring out their orders first.
My son getting rowdy, accidentally spills his drink. Trying to clean it up with the 2 napkins we were given didn't work well...but alas there is no waitress around to get some help. Eventually she spots us and comes several minutes later with a cloth. She promises my son a new colouring sheet. Awesome something to entertain him while we wait....and wait...and wait...and now he is crying because he has no colouring sheet. Table behind us is already done eating, table beside us gets their food. Finally get our colouring sheet. He's happy, oh now my daughter spills her drink. Luckily the waitress is behind us, I appologize for the mess and she (this time) quickly returns with a cloth, says she's sending the guy with the mop too. She can't clean it all up with that cloth so she says she will be right back....uh huh.....waiting...waiting...desperately trying to keep my 2 year old from playing in a puddle of chocolate milk...waiting...screw it I'll use the colouring sheets and clean it myself.
In a mad dash the waitress drops my salad in front of me and says the rest will be right out...wait didn't I say bring the kids food first with my bread...not my salad first? FINALLY the kids food comes and we can FINALLY eat.....until the mop boy comes. I figure a dry mop to clean it up...no no, they bring a mop with the most obtrusive smelling cleaner causing me to gag, and giving me an enoumous headache, if this whole thing wasn't headache enough.
As I'm eating, what do I almost choke on in my barely spinach salad (a whopping 5 leaves of spinach barely consistutes calling it a 'spinach salad') but a chicken bone. Wonderful!
We finish eating and she's quick to bring the bill, at least she was quick as something.
I ask to speak with the manager, and again I wait. A few minutes later a girl comes by and says the manager will be out in about 3 minutes or so. Wonderful. The manager comes, I explain the atrocious experience I had just had and I get an 'Oh...okay I give you 50% off your meal" or what I thought I heard was 50% off...no it was 15%. I'm glad me almost choking on a chicken bone & being ignored is worth $3...thank you but you can take your 3 bucks and pay for some decent service.
Never again will I go back to that Swiss Chalet.
