This ESM location is next to a great movie theatre and close to a power shopping centre. It should get lots of business.
However, after mysteriously "closing" for nearly a year and reopening this past January "under new management" and owners, NOTHING HAS CHANGED. I saw lots of pictures and plaques commemorating the new owners and "opening" of this franchise, but there was little to show for it.
The front desk Hostesses ARE NO WHERE TO BE SEEN, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. It takes forever to get a table, I didn't notice any improvements to the decor and the new staff seemed clumsy and overly apologetic.
The washrooms here are in the basement: I get it - they're supposed to be like going into a New York Subway, but are they supposed to smell like you're going into a New York sewer? No improvements were made to these washrooms since the place was closed and reopened, not even new faucets or paper towel dispensers!
Service is excruciatingly slow.
The best thing ESM has going for it now is its' signature ITALIAN HOUSE SALAD. I JUST LOVE IT TO DEATH! This is the only reason I am recommending this restaurant chain (not this particular location). If they ever make changes to their signature salad, they are doomed.
I've always liked East Side Mario's restaurants since their inception. Unfortunately, they've made so many changes to their menus over the last 5 years and the franchises are getting so run down, that we no longer seek out ESM restaurants when the mood hits us to eat out. They messed with the recipe and killed my favourite "Angel Hair Primavera" years ago.
