“Excellent food, huge portions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

This place is a nice little restaurant tucked away on Victoria St N in Kitchener. There were 5 of us in our group and as it was a Sunday evening the place there was space available even though we had made a reservation. The food was excellent quality and the portions…well they are huge. My wife and I decided to try the mixed platter for 2 to share so we could try a bit of everything. Well we got a lot of everything and it was so much we had to have a box to take some home.

The grilled meat was cooked to perfection and tasted of the grill. The cheese schnitzel is highly recommended. All five of us agreed that the meals we ate could not be faulted and were good value. Most expensive was the platter for 2 at $40 but really it should be a platter for 3 or 4 as there was so much food. Most other meals are between $12 and $15 but they are still generous portions. We had coffee but no deserts as we just could not eat any more food. Will go again to try other items on the menu, soup and a smaller main next time.

“Delicious Eastern European food, great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

We were heading out for an evening at the theatre, and wanted somewhere to go in Kitchener that would be close to the theatre area and serve a nice home-cooked meal. We found it at J & B Family Restaurant.

It is a pretty spot, with clean linen table cloths and napkins. It has a variety of seating, and when we were there, there were small parties of 2 or 4, as well as a large party of 10, and yet all of us were served in good time and no long waiting.

Our waitress was a real dear and so pleasant. Because it was our first time, she patiently explained what each dish was, as some of them are written in Serbian.

We ordered a half litre of the white house wine (12.95). Fresh, light, warm homemade dinner rolls appeared and they were a treat. My only disappointment of the evening was that they didn't serve butter with the rolls, but only margarine. It is a petty complaint, but still, I like butter with fresh warm rolls!

I ordered the Gypsy Schnitzel (14.95), freshly cooked with tomatoes, green peppers and onions in a sauce. With it I had the homemade sauerkraut and rice. The serving was ample.

My husband ordered the Karadjordjeva Schnitzel (15.95) rolled with a tasty smoked proscuitto and cream cheese. He had the fried potatoes and sauerkraut. Delicious.

We both enjoyed the warm apple strudel, packed full of apples (4.50). Enjoyed it with a cup of coffee.

J & B Restaurant is in a very small row of shops, set back a bit from view, so be on the lookout as you drive to it. There are limited parking spaces if it's busy. We made a reservation for 5:15 on a Thursday night, but didn't really need to. Perhaps on a Friday or Saturday - I could certainly see it being busy on weekends. We will be back to try some other delicious food!

“Relaxed Dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Visited J&B at the recommendation of a friend who is always on the lookout for an out of the ordinary dining experience. J&B fits this description. This has been my 4th visit to this Serbian restaurant that serves excellent European food. It is tucked away in a small retail strip plaza so you need to be alert so as not to drive by. Quality and flavour have been consistent on each of our visits. Staff were friendly and accommodated special diet requests. The restaurant is small with typical European decor. We also had a home catered event which did not disappoint. The food was delivered hot and on time. Our guests had not heard of J&B but were quite impressed with the home-style flavour. Expect to be impressed

“Exceeded my expectations.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012 via mobile

You wouldn't be able to tell from the outside of this restaurant but it is a hidden gem. Diamond in the rough. Everything is freshly prepared and home made right down to the bread. The time and care that go into the meals is evident, the food is to DIE for. Will return frequently. Great place for a small reception as well. I will be having my daughters christening celebration there.

“Nice place, good food at a reasonable price but the food was served an hour after.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2012 via mobile

We had lunch here and I was impressed with their specialty of the day - stuffed peppers. The place is nice. The only thing I can complain about was that we waited for an hour for our foood so don't eat here when you are on a limited lunch break.
