“Clean quiet beautiful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Recommend the Pic River Guest Suite for winter or all seasons. Would stay longer next time and plan cooking. Hiking near by at Pukaskwa National Park. Marathon is ten minutes away for groceries and shopping. Clean quiet accomodations. Could sleep 4. Coffee maker, toaster oven, electric fry pan. Gorgeous view of the Pic River.

We stayed in the guest suite for one night on our trip across the North shore of Lake Superior. My parents and myself stayed quite comfortably in the spotlessly clean and well appointed suite. The beds were very comfortable and the sheets were soft. For more specific details about the experience, I reccomend reading the previous review left by wisconsinwanderer, as it is extremely accurate.

I do feel it was a great place to stay and would like to point out, that although the guest suite is in town and not remote, as the photos on the website may have you believe, it is very comfortable and relaxing. Pic River was silent the night we stayed there and in the morning my Mum and I drank our coffee outside while overlooking the river, and could hear nothing but the water. We then proceeded to go for a run down Rabbit Road out of town, it is a quiet country road that follows the Pic River and is a scenic place for a run or walk.

Finally, Bonnie was a great host, available when we needed her, but giving us our privacy to do our thing.

When we first looked at pictures, we thought we were staying in a big house with big windows over looking the river. Actually, you walked down a small loose stone path and go underneath and there is a walk out and that is your suite. The rooms are quite attractive and the beds are so very comfortable. Quiet location for sure.

This is on an Indian reservation. The majority of houses are run down and one window you look out on some old sheds and the other side are school busses. If that bothers you, this isn't for you. STILL, this is a gem after a long trip and there isn't much in Marathon.

This place has wireless service and thought went into this place to make it was comfortable as possible. We spend time sitting outside watching the river go by and later went down the road to the Park nearby.

For 110.00 a night we anticipated some sort of breakfast fixings. We had the end run of two english muffins, end of a jar of jam, a pat of butter, some eggs to make and strange frozen unmarked sausage in the freezer which we left alone. There was no fruit, really not much to eat at all and you are a bit far out to find a restaurant or store. It was a huge disappointment and we got up and drove back into Marathon and ate breakfast at the A&W which was adequate. Oh the suite had stuff for coffee and tea and there was a half a quart of milk and not enough for the granola.

I think it is an ambitious undertaking and wish Bonnie, who we didn't meet, the best in this endeavor. I think it is overpriced and the pictures on the Pic River Suite signs overstretch what it is as do the pictures of the large picture windows, once again, you are underneath in a redone walk out basement that is done up really quite well.

Clean beyond words, quiet.

Go outside at night and look at the stars. Amazing.

We recommend with noting the above experience.

If you are looking for a quiet, clean, spacious, well-appointed suite with a view of a meadow filled with wildflowers and the scenic, wide river, my husband and I highly recommend this lovely spot. Bonnie provided us with provisions to make our own breakfast (eggs, fruit, cereal, bread and condiments). One of the two rooms has a mini-fridge, hot plates and a microwave: everything is in good working order. The Pic River Guest Suite is only minutes from Pukaskwa National Park, which offers scenic hiking trails, fishing, camping and canoeing. We enjoyed an afternoon of canoeing with the park naturalist, which was a lot of fun.

Bonnie a sweet-tempered hostess, who has tried hard to make our stay comfortable. I highly recommend her B & B.

My family spent one night here. The suite is located outside of Pukaskwa National Park along the Pic River. This suite is a great alternative for lodging considering that the nearby town of Marathon is fairly depressing and has very limited options for lodging or dining. I had informed the owner ahead of time that we had two children so she set up a second queen bed in the suite. The suite had two spacious rooms each with a queen bed and a TV. I was worried that we would be cramped with the second bed, but there was plenty of room. One of the rooms had a small kitchen area where we made breakfast the next day. A bathroom is connected to one of the rooms. The decor is very nice consisting of many pieces of art made by local artists (all for sale). When we arrived, the fridge was stocked with bread, eggs, sausage, milk, and juice (I think) for us to use for making our breakfast the next morning. This was good since it would have been a several mile drive to get breakfast in town. The suite has its own private entrance and takes us the entire floor.

The house is next to the Pic River which you can walk down to. I would note that the suite is not as remote as I was expecting based on the website - there are neighbors on both sides of you. We did not have much interaction with the host other than being told how to get to the suite and paying for it. You have to pay for this with cash so make sure you bring it with you since I suspect the nearest ATM is a ways off. I would highly recommend taking the combination hike that combines the 3 trails next to the visitor's center at Pukaskwa since the scenery is outstanding - it was everyone's favorite hike when we did the loop around Lake Superior.

I highly recommend a stay at the Pic River Guest Suite in the Pic Nation First Nation community just a few km from Pukaskwa National Park of Canada located near Marathon Ontario on the shores of Lake Superior. Pukaskwa is the only wilderness national park in Ontario and features spectacular hiking. Bonnie has created a wonderful guest house overlooking the river and is a welcoming host who is knowledgeable about the area. Features kitchen facilities and high-speed internet access together with an unbeatable location. Contact (--)
