Our family (as well as our son's teammates, their family members, and the coaching staff) stayed at this property for one night in November 2012 while in town to take part in a boys highschool basketball tournament.
For the pros, the location was great (close to the high school and rec centre, and situated among many shopping and dining establishments). The hotel was clean, modern and in good repair. The room, while not luxurious, was very much adequate for our brief stay.
For the cons, I have to mention the size of the pool and hot tub. Both so tiny that it was impossible for more than 2 people to use these facilities at any given time. While their miniature proportions were laughable, it was also a real disappointment.
I had to request additional shampoo and conditioner at the front desk for my very long hair, and the request was met with outward suspicion (enough that I really felt badly afterward). I have had to request this at many other properties before, and its always been given without question. I wasn't asking for a year's supply, just another bottle to ensure I could washj properly in the morning.
The staff disappointed us again at the breakfast hour. We arrived for breakfast about 15 minutes before the breakfast hour was to commence, knowing we would be a little too early to eat. We were happily surprised to see that breakfast was already open for self-service (we could smell the waffles as we walked down the hallway....while the rest of the breakfast was very basic, this was a nice inclusion and much anticipated by the teenaged boys in our group). Unfortunately, the first team to arrive had consumed most of the supplies (specifically, the waffle batter) so we asked the front desk if someone could assist us. The male manager on duty assured us he would be right over. After a 20 minute wait, with the same fellow looking over in our direction at least a dozen times in the interim (and no guests taking up his time with other front desk issues.....he was there with another female staff), the breakfast room staffer arrived for her shift and eventually began to refill the depleted items. A pet peeve of mine, particularly in the service industry, is when things are overpromised and underperformed. Not going to refill anything until after someone else arrives for their scheduled work day? Then tell us that. Don't leave us with expectations that you promise and don't plan on delivering. A small thing, but left a bad taste in our mouth about how much the folks running the place actually care.
Overall, the price was right, the accommodations were sufficient, and it was cost effective to have a basic breakfast included in the nightly charge. Would we stay here again? I would say no........with the tiny pool and hot tub, and the indifference of the staff, I am sure there must be something better in the Midland area.
