“Good Hotel - Great Indpendant Restaurant Next Door!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2011

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights for a family occasion. Good hotel with adequate facilities. Decor somewhat dated but had a kitchenette room and if you wanted to cater for yourself it was more than adequate to do this. More expensive that a budget hotel in the UK though.

Attached to the Hotel (indpendant of it though) is the Buttery Restaurant which is first class and is run by a couple of Greek guys who catered for my Uncle's 75th Birthday Party very well. Extremely friendly service and first class food! Try it for breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and you will not be disappointed!

This hotel was surprisingly nice and comfortable compared to what I saw others review this hotel. We didn't have any issues and it's in a great location. Across the street from Upper Canada Mall and Shoppers/LCBO around the corner. I recommend this hotel if you're going to newmarket. I would avoid the buffet breakfast within the hotel. I never went, but it didn't look appetizing. We went to this awesome breakfast place across the street which was affordable and amazing.

This place is up there with one of the worst places I have stayed. The staff was friendly, and that's about the only thing this place had going for it. The room that we stayed in reeked of cigarette smoke, the towels and linnes were stained, the TV was staight out of the 80's, and the room was super small. We even had this room at a discounted rate which was $109!! definately not worth that. I strongly suggest doing yourself a favor and find better accomidations for your stay in newmarket.

We would have appreciated the opportunity to discuss your concerns.
It is unfortunate that you were not satisfied with your accommodations at our hotel. We have been a non-smoking facility for over two years now and we receive numerous compliments on our cleanliness, our beds and linens and as you said our friendly staff. You felt so strongly about your stay that you commented here on Trip Advisor but neglected to advise us directly.

Stayed here with my wife for the September labor day long weekend. We found the hotel to be very clean, friendly helpful staff and a great little restaurant (the Buttery) attached. The rates were very reasonable and the hotel itself is well situated near a main road. Yes, they also asked for my drivers license and I am not a visible minority.

We stayed here for a weekend in August 2010 and were very happy with our choice. The hotel is well run and maintained. The rooms are nicely appointed with particularly comfortable beds and linens, a refrigerator and two newly upholstered armchairs.
The adjoining restaurant, The Buttery, is an asset:; superior food, pleasant surroundings, locally patronized and serving until 9 PM weekdays and 10 PM Fri and Sat. The location is great with everything close by.
With regard to an earlier posting, I am a woman in my fifties, not a minority and I was asked for photo ID. I don't find this that unusual in this day and age.
We had a very enjoyable stay.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2010

I stayed for a night by June 2010. When checked in, the Receptionist asked for my drivers license. took a copy & filed it. when i questioned her, she said that the local police asked her to do that

Next night I moved to the nearby Holiday Inn. No question asked. did not ask for personal information like drivers license

If the cops are asking for that information, why not Holiday Inn did not ask for that. Not sure what right the Bestwestern has in asking for personal information. I will never ever step in to this hotel

It is unfortunate that you felt it necessary to post such a negative remark on this travel site.

Our staff has been directed to photo copy the business card of any new corporate guest to add to our database. We review this semi-annually to ensure our frequent guests are recognized.

We enhanced our guest registration policy about two years ago after attending a fraud seminar put on by the banks in our community and the York Regional Police. We now require a valid form of photo identification from all our guests to cross reference the individual presenting the credit card and the signature. This protects both our business and most importantly you the guest. A fraudulently used credit card causes undue financial interruption and anxiety for the card holder. We have taken a proactive step in protecting our guests. If our colleagues choose not to then that is their prerogative.

Last but not least, your comment that we singled you out as a minority is most hurtful especially to a number of our staff whom you would qualify as minorities. They see themselves as proud and equal members of our family owned business and took offense to your accusation.

Check-in no problem stayed on the 3rd floor by the elevator.

Beds were very nice with an LCD-TV which was a fair size. Bathroom needs a little updating but was clean. Plus had separate shower from large jet-tub which was also nice.

Its located on the busiest intersection in Newmarket directly across from the Towns mall and closest to all other store locations and restaurants in walking distance.

Other hotels like the new Holiday Inn and Best Western are located near the hwy404 and are on the outskirts of town.
