I frequent Richards when I am on business in Parry Sound and I am always pleased. Love their home made bake goods. Delicious!!

“This place has lost it's way, there are better options nearby.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

I used to like the food here a lot, but over the last couple years it's been consistently mediocre to poor; I continue to try it once in a while in hopes that it has improved, but it hasn't.

The restaurant is a cafe style, think doughnut shop without the branding, quite unremarkable but not offensive. A Greyhound kiosk is located inside which is odd for this type of establishment. The bathroom (men's) has always been clean whenever I've visited. The overall atmosphere is best described as "I stopped trying years ago".

The hot food is very disappointing, including the special of the day. It is all reheated via microwave after you order it, and especially poor if you are near the end of the day (closing time); it tastes about as good as leftovers can. The 'Chicken ala King' is especially terrible and should be removed from their menu. The soups are hit and miss, I'd avoid the 'Italian wedding' soup.

The sandwiches are made to order, and the bread has been fresh each time I ordered one, though I got the end crust once which was unexpected... The meats are your standard deli cuts, nothing special, but the veggies were fresh.

They have a good selection of deserts, of which I've only sampled the banana bread with icing; it was very good and I'd have it again. Can't tell if these are homemade, but likely not.

The service has always been 'small-town' and generally pleasant. It's seems friendlier if you're a 'local', but overall it was adequate with a splash of 'friendly'.

A few years ago the food here was a nice change from the fast-food options that are located nearby; it had a homemade quality to it. But now you are actually better off with the soups and sandwiches at Tim Hortons, or the deli section of the nearby Sobey's. I really want to like this place, but I just can't as it is now.

“Best Buttertarts Ever!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

Have been to Parry Sound many times and ALWAYS have to get a buttertart from this place. One of the best, beats out any farmers market or bakery miles around.

“The service is terrible and the serving sizes are getting smaller every year. If you're a tourist, they'll ignore you until you ”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012 via mobile

The service is terrible and the food is alright but getting worse. 5 staff members will be standing around with a line up of people and they'll ignore you until you request help and once you order, they'll move really slow to assist.

I've tried this place about 5 times now (its on route and I'm not a Harvey's or Swiss chalet fan, but my husband is) and my experience has been the same each time.

“Richard's”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

This used to be a great little place to grab a bite to eat along the way, but not anymore. Somehow they have lost their touch.
