“Okay place for one or two nights”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

I gave it three stars for effort - it really is a two-star place. If you're looking for a place to sleep and have a free continental breakfast and not spend too much, this place is fine. The pool was lovely, the hot tub was warm (not hot), and the place is very clean. However, it needs a lot of TLC and fixing up. Throughout the main areas, doors are sticking and need a good push, there's no security at the back door at all, the chairs for guests to sit on outside their main floor rooms are old kitchen chairs and look like they are from Goodwill and the furnishings inside the rooms are old and worn out. We had an old recliner and a kitchen chair to sit on in our room, when there was plenty of room for a couch, and no coffee table or dining table. The remotes for the tv were incredibly frustrating - two remotes, no instructions, can't get a picture for 10 minutes till you figure it out. The coffee supplies were not refilled on our second day, which was frustrating, and the dirty towels were taken away but not replaced. However, the people are friendly, the place is clean, the breakfast was fine and free, the pool is very nice, and the bed was comfortable.
I think the people running the place are a bit overwhelmed by it - they seemed a bit flustered at times. At one point I asked for another pillow, and they brought a decorative bolster pillow instead of a sleeping pillow - it did not make for a good night's sleep trying to get comfortable with a bolster pillow under my head, I'll tell you.
As I said, if you need a cheap & clean place to rest your head and have a swim, and can overlook the maintenance issues, this place is fine.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Since we did not have reservations for anyplace and we were tired after driving over 8 hours we stopped at the first place we saw in Parry Sound. When I asked the woman at the front desk if they had a room on the ground floor, she said no. So I asked if there were any other hotels close by and she called someone in who managed to find us a room. When we got into our room, I noticed a big bug on the bed. I did not mention it to my husband but was sure to check my bed before I got into it. The floors were hardwood floors and we had a view of the pool, which was supposedly closed when I went into the lobby to get the wifi password. But there were kids swimming in it that night and you could also hear them at midnight fooling around in the pool. The next morning my husband told me that he killed a few cockroaches in the bathroom during the night, which I did not like to hear. Regardless to say, I did not get much sleep thinking about bugs and listening to swimmers.

I stayed from July 26-28 and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Room was clean and tidy. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Went swimming in the pool and also used the hot tub. Air conditioning worked well and room was comfortable.
Overall,, I enjoyed my experience at this hotel.

The gentleman that checked us in was very friendly. There was a problem with their key machine and he was not able to get us a key that worked, but he was apologetic and told us there would be someone at the desk all night any time we needed to be let in. Just felt kind of weird being in a hotel room that you don't have a key to. It was our wedding anniversary and we had planned to have a nice dinner at a restaurant over looking the water but hated to leave the room not having a key to get back in. We ended up with take out from the restaurant next door. Which was pretty good.

The room was fine, actually quite large with new carpet and a firm bed. The bathroom has a very noisy fan that comes on automatically when you turn on the bathroom light. That is a pet peeve of ours, don't like that. Breakfast options were raisin bran, apples, toast, bagels, butter, peanut butter, coffee, and tea. No juice, no cream cheese, no yogurt, no bananas. They ran out of milk before 9:00. It was kind of a pitiful breakfast.

The pool is indoors and looked kind of cloudy. I think it could use some chlorine.

Overall I would not recommend this hotel and I would not stay here again.

We stayed here july9-12, 2013 while visiting friends who were staying in killbear park. It was horrible from the moment we checked in. If my kids weren't so tired after a 4 hr car ride to get there, we would have hightailed it out Of there. We arrived at 4:30 and no one was at the front desk. Waited for a few minutes behind a guy who had been waiting for just as long. I looked around and called out a few times. Finally called the front desk from my cell phone and they came running. As the guy was trying to find a room for the gentleman waiting, the phone rang and he made us wait even longer while he booked a room for the person on the phone. After we finally checked in, we walked through the pool area. It was hotter than a sauna! Just gross. They either don't have a/c through the place or it wasn't working. Thank goodness it worked in the room. The only good side of the room was that all the carpets were new and clean. We were out the first day at Killbear park and upon returning to our hotel we found our door had been left open after it was "cleaned". Thank goodness we brought all our phones and iPad with us when we left. After telling the man at the front desk what his cleaning staff did, he didn't apologize but said it wouldn't happen again. Gee thanks...The continental breakfast was awful...not much selection and kept having to ask for things that had run out (oj, spoons etc). Not well staffed at all. Thank goodness we only had to sleep there and shower there. We needed extra towels every day for the five of us. You would think after the second day of needing more that they would clue in? not the case, the last day we only had two towels. Lol Will never stay here again and do not recommend it at all. Apparently they are new owners...obviously they have never run a hotel before and need a lesson in manners and how to treat people with respect. Over priced for what you get...

Looking for breakfast we entered here although we did not know breakfast was only for hotelguests.

That did not stop the owner from offering us a hearty breakfast.

Four healthy guys left the hitel with a full belly.
