“middle of the road”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2011

The Comfort Inn in Smiths Falls, ON had some ups and downs for us. On the positive side, our room was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed a quiet night. The staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. On the negative side, the building is an older one and is a bit run down. It looks like management is working on some upgrades but it is taking time. The rooms all look out onto the Rideau River/Canal and the view is lovely if you are standing. Unfortunately the solid concrete balcony walls prevent guests from seeing the river if they are sitting down. It is a shame that the wonderful view of this world heritage site is not easier to access. A basic breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast, juice, fresh fruit, tea and coffee is included with the room. The attached restaurant, Chuckles Jack, offers very good food for the evening meal along with outdoor seating in the warmer months.

Had booked a room online two weeks before, even though the reviews for this hotel weren't great, because it was one of the only places that still had rooms available. They knew we were going to be a late arrival, around 10pm.
Called at 8:15 pm and was told that they had overbooked by two rooms and we no longer had a room.

This hotel has extremely poor management. The hotel smelled terrible and the bathrooms in our suite both did not work, the front desk clerk tried to fix it and then gave us another room on another floor to shower in, the manager then charged an extra night for all the rooms because we left the keys in the rooms when we check-out the next morning. When we called to question these charges, Johan the manager was rude and would not rectify these ridiculous charges. This hotel should not be a comfort inn.

Room Tip: do not stay there-horrible management and poor room quality

Picture deceiving,Balcony was filthy, unusable & looked down on lower roof top littered with beer cans & bottles..elevator was painfully slow, A/C did NOT work in room !!!, the "Entertainer" (because he was definately NOT a singer), was drinking, obnoxious & so loud we couldnt hear the TV in our room...We called front desk to complain about the noise & vulgur language coming from the Patio below (by their entertainer) & asked whe they were going to quiet down so we could sleep only to be told " I dont know" by front desk...the Allyway you have to enter the "Seedy" parking lot by is barely passable with giant potholes...we were afraid to leave our vehicles in the parking lot overnight,,fearing for sure they would be vandalized...I have travelled lots & stayed in many "questionable" motels in Canada & U.S. but this was as bad as any..What a JOKE ..never again would I ever stay here or recommend it to anyone

We stayed one night in Smiths Falls at the Comfort in - wasn't sure what to expect. It was an older hotel, but clean. All the rooms face over the river. We were able to watch a bit of a swimming race from our balcony. The nicest suprise was the meal at the restaurant in the hotel. The food was excellent!! If you are looking for the ritz, this is not it, but if you are looking for a clean quiet hotel and a decent price, stay here.

I was travelling through smiths falls on my way to toronto and decided to stay the evening. I was greeted by a kind young woman at the front desk who had a great attitude and seemed happy to be representing comfort inn. She kindly checked us in and pointed me in the direction of the elevator. Upon entering the room, it smelled clean and crisp, very well kept. I will certainly stay here again in my future travels.

This stay was purely a stopover en route from Ontario to Quebec. Nevertheless, after this stay, we will never stay in a Comfort Inn. The only positive we found was the friendly woman at the front desk. The photo of the hotel is deceiving. The canal is at the front, but we could barely see it through the filthy windows in our room. The lobby was seedy with burned out lightbulbs. One of our rooms had a big hole in the plaster in the bathroom. The balcony was unusable as it was filled with cobwebs. One arrives at the hotel via a parking lot at the back of several stores surrounded by dumpsters. It was a very creepy feeling, and we are urban people. For the money we paid, this was a disgrace.
