Not a good week at Beertown. My husband and I went there for a meal on Thursday afternoon, It was busy - some lunch crowd hangers on likely getting together to celebrate the upcoming Holidays. We were sitted quickly at a table that looked out into the mall (not the best view), and our server arrived at our table quickly. Even though the placed wasn't packed, it was really noisy ~ perhaps due to the high ceilings ~ and difficult to hear our server. The beers were listed in a separate small binder and we were impressed by the selection. My husband was having a difficult time choosing and we appreciated the server offering him a tasting before having to commit to a full glass. We ordered the onion rings for our appetizer. I found them very greasy and heavy but my husband thought they were ok. My main was the 7oz steak and my husband chose the chicken pot pie as recommended by our server. I requested my steak med rare and it was leaning on the med to well side. My husband, unfortunately, could not eat the chicken pot pie as it was completely over seasoned with sage. The server, seemed genuinely apologetic about the chicken pot pie and immediately offered to take the meal off the bill. We were happy with that. The manager also came over and apologized. While we were disappointed with the meal, we said we'd be back as we appreciated how they handled the situation.
As it turned out, we found ourselves Uptown again the next evening, Friday and figured we'd give it another go. We arrived at around 6.30pm and although there was nobody waiting for tables and I spied at least 5 empty tables from my limited view at the entrance, we were told the wait would be at last 1hr. Confused, I asked if they take reservations and was told not on Fridays or Saturdays. We were given a complimentary appetizer card to be used at any of the Charcoal Family of restaurants. Upon closer inspection, the card was only valid that evening. So we left the empty tables and the restaurant behind and went somewhere else to eat.
Not sure we'll try a third time.
