1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2011

8 families stayed at this hotel for a wedding, even though the bride/groom had organized a different hotel for guests to stay at - we chose to stay at this particular hotel because they offered a room that was wheelchair accessible. The reservation was made months in advance, and was very specific about the wheelchair accessible room, and all was agreed to by the hotel.
When we showed up, it turned out that the hotel had given that room away to someone else. No apology, no attempt to help make it better, "we didn't get word of this until a week ago" they said. But the reservation was made directly with the hotel!
So a 70+ year old woman who recently had her leg amputated gets to stay in a regular room without the required aids to mobility. What's worse was the hotel's complete lack of any kind of apology or attempt to make the situation any better. The only reason any of us were staying at this hotel was for that one room, and they gave it away!?!
For what it's worth, when we were waiting to check in, the group in front of us was having to argue with the front desk that they did in fact have a reservation - including showing them the email directly from the hotel on the person's phone confirming the reservation - but the hotel didn't have a room for them. They admitted "yes, that's a confirmation email from us, but we don't have you in the system, so we don't have a room for you."
Other than that, the hotel is noisy, lame breakfast, and far below the level you'd expect from Marriott.
There's a Motel 6 across the street - go there! I'm sure you'll be treated with more respect at least.

Good Afternoon Bobnones,
I'd like to first thank you for taking the time to write a review for the Residence Inn Whitby. I do apologize for the issues that you encountered during your recent stay with us and I'd like to address them. Your reservation was made two months in advance, and yes you did request an accessible room, however one was never guaranteed, it was only a request. Because we only have one accessible room at the property, it is very difficult to guarantee this, as was the case here when the room was already occupied by someone in a wheelchair. This information was also passed on to the bride and groom on Friday night, they were both informed that the request could not be granted. Both the Front Office Manager and a GSA was present and both did apologize as we could not get you into the accessible room. Regarding the group that was in line in front of you, the mix up at check in was that they forgot what name they made the reservation under, only when they gave us the confirmation number and we said the name did they realize their error. I trust this response meets with your approval and understanding. Should you wish to discuss this matter further, please feel free to contact me at 905-444-9756.

We were travelling late after leaving downtown Toronto on our way to Montreal. We wanted to get as far as we could, but have 2 boys with special needs, and know when we need to not push it! We had just driven past the Whitby Residence Inn...and I had exhausted my iPhone search of finding any hotels with vacancy beyond there. Desperate, I called them to see if they had a room. The front desk was amazing on the phone. When we arrived, the check in was quick and off to bed we got the boys.

Other reviews have mentioned a busy breakfast, which is true if you wait till later like most places. It is worth it, and if you don't like being packed in and rushed, then just get up earlier. Clean, quiet and worth it!

Expedia screwed up our reservations and we ended up here for 2 nights during our vacation. Thank goodness!
The front desk staff were helpful.
And the housekeeping dept can only be described as AWESOME!
Our room was so clean, it felt brand new!

My Mom and I booked this hotel for just one night but I wish it had been a week.

We arrived to find a lot of young lacrosse players roaming around. The front desk clerk told us that there was a tournament that weekend - that explained why I had difficulty finding a vacancy.

We got to our room and we were in the middle of the lacrosse rooms. Now please understand that the boys were polite and not running the halls but they were being typical boys. I called down to the desk and asked if it was possible for them to move us to the other end of the hall. I told her that the boys were fine it was just that I had left mine at home. The clerk did even better then that - she put my Mom and I on the 4th floor, away from the teams and in a 2 bedroom. What luxury! We each had our own bed and bath as well as our living room and kitchen - and it was quiet!

Breakfast was quite good - lots of variety. I wish we had just grabbed some food and taken it back to our room since the breakfast room was crowded but we'll do that next time. We are planning another get-away and this will be our first choice for a hotel.

I took my 3 grandchildren for a couple of days for march break. . We were supposed to get a 1 bedroom but they gave us 2 and we were so surprized when we walked into the room (fridge, stove, dishwasher, microwave, a table with 4 chairs. There was a tv in each bedroom along with a bathroom off each bedroom and everytime we turned around we saw another thing that was great and everything was so nice and clean whereas my grandaughter says that she feels that Oprah was there and just keeped giving us stuff.
