“Million dollar scenery, all without the hard work”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

There are some places in K Country and Peter Loughheed Park that you have to work really hard on a trail before you can see....not Upper Kananaskis Lake. Stunning scenery is within view just by driving there and parking. Then, if you feel the urge to hike a bit, the trail is an easy route around the Lakes.

The only downside (and upside) is that this is more remote and requires at least a 45-60 minute drive. The drive there from Canmore is stunning along Hwy 762 (mostly gravel with speed limits ranging from 25-80 km/hr) or Hwy 40 (all paved with speed limit of 90 km/hr). This location seems to cut down on the traffic and crowds, at least during shoulder season.

Wonderful turquoise coloured lake with snow clad mountains as a backdrop, and a marvellous drive to arrive there.

“BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

If you travel to Alberta you simply have to visit this lake!
Glorious views and a photographers paradise.
If you go in late spring there are less tourists around. It can still be quite chilly so be prepared. During our visit and drive the temperatures were from +11C down to -5C

“Pleasure Ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

We decided to take an afternoon ride in Kananaskis Country one afternoon during Thanksgiving week. Many of the side roads were closed due to the snow and ice, however we were able to get the the Upper Kananaskis Lake with no trouble. Though frozen over, it was a magnificent site and totally void of people! It was quiet and yet crisp with birds chirping and ice crackling as it fell from the trees . We took all the road available to get lost on as we drove back from the upper to the lower lake seeing several "critters" along the way. I would recommend this drive whenever in the area. There will be no disappointments.
