My wife and I were in Canmore during our honeymoon. We chose to eat lunch at Stoney's on the second to last day of our trip, and I wish he hadn't. It seemed that we were judged the moment we walked into the room as a young couple that would not tip well, and we were treated as second class citizens our entire time there.
The first thing I noticed (which was not a big deal in itself) is that every, and I mean EVERY single person that had a water glass in the entire restaurant had a lemon. My wife and I did not. It is pretty easy to notice a bright yellow lemon on every single glass except for ours. After drinking my water in the first 20 minutes, I sat with an emtpy glass for about 45 minutes. We had also ordered beers and I was finished with that also, the waitress came to pick up my pilsner glass and still didnt offer me a refill on my water (which was about 2 inches away from the glass she picked up). I finally had to ask for a refill later after our food came out.
We had placed our order, and about 20 minutes later a group of golfers came in and sat next to us. They placed their order and recieved their food 20 minutes before we did...they had their checks before our food even came out! So they ordered 20 minutes after us and got their food 20 minutes before us. When our food finally did come out, my sandwich (Beef Dip) was soggy and cold, and I would have had better quality if I went to Subway. It looked un-appetizing and I could not make myself eat more than a third of it despite being very hungry after our long wait for our food. My wife ordered the Beer Battered Fish, which consisted of two 4-inch long pieces of fish, and it was $13 by itself.
The waitress then came to ask if everything was okay, I told her my sandwich was soggy and cold, and she said that was "her bad", and then did not offer to do anything to fix the issue. I would have loved to show my sandwich to the chef and ask him/her if it looked like something they would like to eat!
I paid $70 for an awful lunch, two beers, and a layered-dip appetizer.
If you do not have the "country club" look about you, expect to be treated poorly and expect to receive second-class service at Stoney's.
