“Give it a miss!”

Four Points Canmore

May 7, 2008

We had booked in advance for a Saturday night stay. We were informed of the 4 pm check in time. We arrived at 3:30 hoping to be accomodated earlier but there were no clean rooms in the hotel (!??!). Our Room wasn't ready until 5 pm! The thing that made our wait so painful is that my husband and I we're travelling with our 6 month old baby! Sitting in a lobby for an hour and a half was a less than desirable activity!

When we were finally given the card key to our room on the 2nd floor we had to travell down a long hallway with ripped, torn and wrinkled carpeting...a hazard to say the least. The entire length of the hallway was littered with soiled bedding and housekeeping carts.

My family settled in our room only to have someone knock on the door...because they hadn't finished cleaning the bathroom. Housekeeping came and went 3 times before we had any peace.

The room it self was small but basically clean (when all was said and done).

We tried to order room service at 9 pm on a Saturday night (the brochure said it was available until 11 pm) but were told the kitchen was closed. The front desk had no reccomendations for places in town that would deliver to the hotel.

With much patient complaining at the front desk we got 2, $10 vouchers for breakfast in the hotel restaraunt. That amount barely covered the cost of one hot breakfast but the service was prompt and polite. The food and selection was average.

I had other accomodations to choose from in Canmore but for some reason had associated the Sheraton name with Quality and Service. I was mistaken.

This hotel is clean and comfortable. The lobby is cute and inviting but it is much more of a motel than anything else. There is plenty of parking and fast food restaurants, should you choose. The location is easy to access from the highway but not particulary pretty location.

The walls are very thin but the rooms are a good size. Just now that you are off from most popular locations.

After booking this hotel for 1 night, I read reviews on tripadvisor and was worried we'd made a mistake. Nothing of the sort. We had a quiet room with a wicked view of the mountains when we awoke. Yes, the carpets are very dated, but we didn't sleep on the carpets. For $99 per night, the beds were fine and there were no disruptions during the night like some downtown hotels we've stayed at. All in all we were very satisfied and will stay again.

This was the second time we've decided to stay at the Four Points Sheraton in Canmore, but the first time that we have booked the jacuzzi loft suite.
The room was fantastic, extremely large with a great view of the mountains! On the bottom level there was a small fireplace, a TV, hide-a-bed, fridge, microwave, sink and washroom. The upstairs was the main attraction with a large bathroom, kingsize bed, another TV and the jacuzzi right beside the bed! We were extremely comfortable in this room!
The staff working at the front desk were extremely helpful by doing their best to accomodate any requests that we had and checking us in and out very quickly!
The only complaints we had were that our room was missing the housecoats we had the last time we booked a standard room and we could hear absolutely everything that was going on in the hallway which woke us up a couple of times.
All in all we had a great stay and would definately stay here again!

Four Points Canmore

I stayed here on business, although I am a also a frequent leisure traveler to the Banff/Canmore area. I have always had the impression that the 4 points sheraton looked to be a 'nicer' Canmore hotel (aesthetically compared to the competition)and location-wise it is beautifully cradled at the base of a mountain.

I was quite disapointed! The lobby was very unimpressive and quite bland - not what I expected based on how it looked outside. That was fine of course, as the rooms are the most important part of the stay. I stayed in a one bedroom suite, but I must say it was probably the most disappointing one bedroom suite I've ever stayed at (and I stay in a lot of hotels for business)! It wasn't well-lit at all and there was a lightbulb that was not functioning correctly either. I must continue to pick on the lighting, because I have never been in a hotel room that used two different 'styles' of lighting either(yellow light & white light). Design and layout was not great, the room was long and narrow resulting in a lack of natural light.

The other annoyance was the proximity of the bed to the noisy heater. Even with the heater shut off, it would still be making noise! Difficult to sleep through.

One thing I give them credit on was giving me a free upgrade to a loft suite, due to my horrible night of sleep from the noisy heater. Although I had to examine 2 different loft suites before I could find one with working wireless internet access, as I require it for business. The process took literally an hour, because room cards would become de-magnetized often on me.

Was quite disappointed and probably would not return given there are many other choices in Canmore. I have stayed at many nicer Super 8's, Ramada's and Best Westerns that are far more superior in every aspect I have described above.

I'm usually not that picky and don't spend my time doing internet reviews of hotels, but this one just ticked me off!! The only credit I give them is upgrading me.
