“Just right in Canmore”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

The Solara has a great location just on the edge of town. We traded our Marriott timeshare week for this unit and it was great. It's an easy 15 minute walk to main street, Elevations, and shopping (or a 5 minute car drive). Our 2 bedroom suite in the Chinook building overlooked the main street but there was no street noise in the apartment. Instead we woke every morning to sunrise over the 3 Sisters and great sunsets on the mountains. The unit is well furnished. The kitchen is loaded with appliances - that require a PhD to operate. But after a day and reading the user manuals, our 4 college graduates figured out the stove controls, and how to use the other appliances. As others have noted, for some reason we couldn't get the thermostat to moderate the temperature. Room temperature got real warm on the first 2 days. The staff tried to fess with the control but to no benefit. Luckily it was cool outside so we turned the system off, opened the windows at night and slept like babies. I've seen this issue in many hotels so a minor inconvenience that you can work around. Beds are big and soft (we had mattress pads on ours :) )The spa is very nice (one of us had a massage and used the sauna) and we used the gym every day. Big negative is the lack of a big pool. The pools are essentially big spas - lots of fun but not swimming pools. But Elevations is just 5 minutes away (bring towels), a good bargain, and an exquisite pool and gym facility for the public. Solara is just about half mile off the trans canada highway so simple to get to Banff or calgary. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a medical emergency and they helped us get to the ER (right down the road) and all was OK. Be sure to borrow movies at the desk and, if available, you can watch them in the big theater! A very nice place to stay. We'd come back for sure.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the mountains (not the courtyard) in the Chinook building have great views.

Good day Gustoguy,

Thank you for some very valuable feedback and definitely some valuable comments. I'll give you that the high level of appliances brings its share of possibilities, but also steps to operate. Luckily, you seemed to be surrounded with a great scientific team to succeed :-).
However, yes, the surroundings as the 3 sisters and the high level of comfort of the units are certainly always greatly appreciated within our guest. I see that you even treated yourself with the services of One Wellness Spa, a fantastic level of experience.

We still hope to add one day a large pool outside. Our first step was certainly to have the indoor facilities, especially with the kids available. I truly hope that we’ll have the chance to see you back soon at Solara.

Thank you for visiting us

Sincere Regards

The resort is quite nice. We had a 2 bedroom suite which was very well equipped and comfortably furnished. Our main problem was that we overlooked a central courtyard between 2 wings that had a huge, noisy extractor fan for the underground parkade. We had to run the ventilation fan in the suite continuously to provide white noise to try to cover the on and off cycling of the outside fan. On Monday morning the splash pad, hot tub area was closed for cleaning so the children in our party were not occupied while the adults packed. Also there is no swimming pool or restaurants at the resort. I would recommend that your room does not open onto the parkade fans!

A last minute booking but well worth it. Had intended to stay in Banff but accommodation was scarce so grabbed a "luxury" suite for two nights at the Solara - based on the Trip Advisor recommendation. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Fantastic layout with a superb kitchen and all the mod cons. Minor downsides (that my partner noticed) were the lack of mattress cover (which caused the sheet to slide around) and the challenge to get the room temperature just right.
Very quiet (obviously not peak season) and warm (when it was 4C outside) and so comfortable that we decided to have dinner in on the second night and use the bbq and kitchen to cook a gourmet meal.

We recently had guests stay here for our wedding. Gorgeous condo suites with excellent customer service. Staff was always very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend staying here while you travel the Rockies, as it offers the convenience of being a short distance away from all tourist attractions, yet you have the convenience and confort of feeling like you're at home. The spacious suites are great for a family and group of friends!

We stayed at the Solara Resort the first week in September and loved it! We enjoyed our fourth floor two-bedroom condo unit very much and had a beautiful view of the mountains from our deck, although we did have the street below so the deck was not without a little traffic noise. However, we loved sitting out there in the evenings after long days hiking in the park. Inside of our unit it was very quiet, beds were comfy, and we slept well. The showers with their jet sprays were wonderful after hiking all day. All staff members we met were extremely helpful and friendly. We had two different maintenance men in to deal with the washer which was a bit high tech for us and they were both so kind and helpful. We liked having the underground garage and not having to worry about our rental car on the street. If there were any negatives, we would say that the elevator was extremely slow and there were some cleaning details that needed more attention. There was additional bedding in the closet that seemed not to have been washed or folded as you would expect it to be in such a nice place (just stuffed up there on the shelf). We did not need it for the week, but any linens left in the unit should be clean. However, for such a large unit and the amount of time the staff may have had to clean between guests, it was quite adequate for us. We have traveled extensively and stayed in many resorts and this is by far the nicest one we have ever stayed in. It does belong in a nicer setting, but we still give it a ten!

Room Tip: Ask for fourth floor street side if you want a view of the mountains vs. looking right at another un...

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

We were a party of six adults all getting together for a family weekend and choose these Hotel/apartments in Canmore. We were in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment and our initial impression was that it was going to be great. The apartment was really spacious and the bedrooms and bathrooms were a good size. The finishings in the apartment and the bed linens were all of a very nice quality.
Once we were settled in and starting to cook, you began to realise that the entire place, althuough superficially clean, was not really at the standard you would expect when you are paying top dollar. The kitchen was very sparcly fitted out and we were having to improvise the entire time. Things like, there were only 4 linen napkins, which may seem petty, but for a 3 bedroom apartment, you would think that there would be 6. A lot of the dishes were not clean when we came to use them, so we had to wash everything before using it. The table mats were frankly discusting. We asked for an extra frying pan to make breakfast omlettes, and when it was brought to us, it still had the blue cleaning fluid in it!
We ordered a taxi to get us to a restuarant on the saturday night, but dispite making sure the front desk knew that there were 6 in the party, they ordered an ordinary cab which could not hold all of us.
There are very few ammenities like pubs and restuarants within walking distance of this hotel and it does not have these on site. The only place close by closes at 9PM!
Finially, as we were the first to arrive, but the booking was not in my name, they asked for a small deposit on my credit card, which I was told would be $50. Once the booking menber of our party arrived, the total ammount was taken off her card, and my deposit was supposed to be returned. On getting back from vacation, I checked and they have taken $531 and it has NOT been returned to me!
There are a lot of great places to stay in Canmore, but frankly this is not one of them.

Room Tip: Dont think you are going to get a veiw from any room here. Best veiw is of the next door condo block...

Stayed here over the long weekend for the Highland Games.

We had four people (two adults and two kids) who all fit comfortably in a one bedroom. A playstation for the kids to use was fantastic and the kitchen was stocked with all the things we would need.

The pool area was a little small, but having a play area for the kids was great.

All in all a great hotel and we would stay here again.
