“Solace at Solara in Canmore”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

A last minute booking but well worth it. Had intended to stay in Banff but accommodation was scarce so grabbed a "luxury" suite for two nights at the Solara - based on the Trip Advisor recommendation. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Fantastic layout with a superb kitchen and all the mod cons. Minor downsides (that my partner noticed) were the lack of mattress cover (which caused the sheet to slide around) and the challenge to get the room temperature just right.
Very quiet (obviously not peak season) and warm (when it was 4C outside) and so comfortable that we decided to have dinner in on the second night and use the bbq and kitchen to cook a gourmet meal.

We recently had guests stay here for our wedding. Gorgeous condo suites with excellent customer service. Staff was always very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend staying here while you travel the Rockies, as it offers the convenience of being a short distance away from all tourist attractions, yet you have the convenience and confort of feeling like you're at home. The spacious suites are great for a family and group of friends!

We stayed at the Solara Resort the first week in September and loved it! We enjoyed our fourth floor two-bedroom condo unit very much and had a beautiful view of the mountains from our deck, although we did have the street below so the deck was not without a little traffic noise. However, we loved sitting out there in the evenings after long days hiking in the park. Inside of our unit it was very quiet, beds were comfy, and we slept well. The showers with their jet sprays were wonderful after hiking all day. All staff members we met were extremely helpful and friendly. We had two different maintenance men in to deal with the washer which was a bit high tech for us and they were both so kind and helpful. We liked having the underground garage and not having to worry about our rental car on the street. If there were any negatives, we would say that the elevator was extremely slow and there were some cleaning details that needed more attention. There was additional bedding in the closet that seemed not to have been washed or folded as you would expect it to be in such a nice place (just stuffed up there on the shelf). We did not need it for the week, but any linens left in the unit should be clean. However, for such a large unit and the amount of time the staff may have had to clean between guests, it was quite adequate for us. We have traveled extensively and stayed in many resorts and this is by far the nicest one we have ever stayed in. It does belong in a nicer setting, but we still give it a ten!

Room Tip: Ask for fourth floor street side if you want a view of the mountains vs. looking right at another un...

We were a party of six adults all getting together for a family weekend and choose these Hotel/apartments in Canmore. We were in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment and our initial impression was that it was going to be great. The apartment was really spacious and the bedrooms and bathrooms were a good size. The finishings in the apartment and the bed linens were all of a very nice quality.
Once we were settled in and starting to cook, you began to realise that the entire place, althuough superficially clean, was not really at the standard you would expect when you are paying top dollar. The kitchen was very sparcly fitted out and we were having to improvise the entire time. Things like, there were only 4 linen napkins, which may seem petty, but for a 3 bedroom apartment, you would think that there would be 6. A lot of the dishes were not clean when we came to use them, so we had to wash everything before using it. The table mats were frankly discusting. We asked for an extra frying pan to make breakfast omlettes, and when it was brought to us, it still had the blue cleaning fluid in it!
We ordered a taxi to get us to a restuarant on the saturday night, but dispite making sure the front desk knew that there were 6 in the party, they ordered an ordinary cab which could not hold all of us.
There are very few ammenities like pubs and restuarants within walking distance of this hotel and it does not have these on site. The only place close by closes at 9PM!
Finially, as we were the first to arrive, but the booking was not in my name, they asked for a small deposit on my credit card, which I was told would be $50. Once the booking menber of our party arrived, the total ammount was taken off her card, and my deposit was supposed to be returned. On getting back from vacation, I checked and they have taken $531 and it has NOT been returned to me!
There are a lot of great places to stay in Canmore, but frankly this is not one of them.

Room Tip: Dont think you are going to get a veiw from any room here. Best veiw is of the next door condo block...

Stayed here over the long weekend for the Highland Games.

We had four people (two adults and two kids) who all fit comfortably in a one bedroom. A playstation for the kids to use was fantastic and the kitchen was stocked with all the things we would need.

The pool area was a little small, but having a play area for the kids was great.

All in all a great hotel and we would stay here again.

I stayed at the Solara in August, and after the terrible 5 days, I decided to write a lengthy letter to the Management. We have finally negotiated a settlement.
Mainly the problems centred around Maintenance. My one bedroom unit had so many issues that a maintenance person was there every day.
The wands for the wooden blinds were either missing or broken. The roof covered deck was always flooded with rainwater. The outdoor barbecue did not work. The ice cube maker in the Fridge did not work. The washing machine ruined my blouse.
In addition, the noise transfer from the unit above was incredible one night...so bad that Security had to be called in.
As far as location and ammenities, I was not impressed. The Resort is located in the middle of condo complexes....nothing pretty about that. There is no restaurant on site...means a drive into Canmore.

Room Tip: This unit was located above the Gate for the underground parking...you could hear the gate everytime...

Good day 43flutter8,

I regret sincerely to read your review but thank you for expressing your comments. As you know, we have had numerous communications in regards to the listed comments you made and offered many solutions in order to provide you satisfaction, even after your stay. After addressing each of your point, you were apparently satisfied. Unfortunately, it seems obvious that it still is not to your satisfaction.

Our resort does not have yet a restaurant inside the property as you mentioned and I can only assume that you agreed to this by reserving at Solara, nothing had changed. We are delighted however to let you know that we will have from next spring a fantastic brand new restaurant for the satisfaction of our guest.

The occasional rain, the location of our resort, the luxury amenities and equipment of each unit (such as frontal washing machine and dryer) are actually the pleasures of each of our guest usually. As you can read from others, our guest appreciate the high level of our units such as 6-jet-massage showers, wine fridges, fireplaces in units, fully equipped gourmet kitchen, granite counters, the high quality of our Spa, ...

Therefore, to the light of your comments and after several proposed solutions, I regret to come to the conclusion that we cannot provide satisfaction to your expectations! We wish you the very best for the future.

We stayed here for a weekend while attending a wedding in town. The hotel is large and modern, we all loved that we got rooms with full kitchens. The only thing I would have changed is a bigger bathroom in the 1 bedroom suit that we were in. I know that the suite sizes vary between one bedrooms.

Good day KikiMira,

Thank you for your review and very happy that it was, indeed, a great wedding. I certainly met many of your group and everyone seemed to have enjoyed very much their week-end.

The size or I would say "layout" of the different bathrooms varies slightly yes from units to units. The overall size is the same but the layout can appear better upon each personal taste. I do hope at least that our amenities were to your satisfaction.

I thank for your visit at Solara and truly hope that we’ll have the chance to see you once again at Solara in Canmore.

Best Regards,
