“So beautiful it inspired a wedding proposal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

We stayed here on December, 2011, and it was gorgeous! The room was spectacular, with fireplaces in both the living room and the bedroom. Kitchen was spacious and very well appointed. The bathroom was huge, and the robes were a welcomed detail since the temperatures were chilly outside, and we were able to use the balcony with them. It just so happened there was a full moon eclipse one of the nights we were there, and with the snow and the whole romantic setting, my husband proposed in that balcony! We are planning to go back to celebrate our anniversary. Very nice stay indeed!

Stayed there for a wedding with the family.
I was very happy with the size of the suites and our room had a nice layout. Big bathrooms.
A great getaway with the family, and the kids loved the pool area but I found the pools too small for adults. (just small wading pools, but it was good for smaller children)
Liked the parkade, wasn't fond of the elevators. And I heard the people above us stomp around a lot. But other than that didn't hear people chatting in other suites around us. Just a stompy guest upstairs maybe?
Staff was friendly and very accomodating! great place to join family, friends and large groups of people at!

Room Tip: Next time I would ask for our suite not to face the main street so you could get a better view AND t...

I have been to Canmore many times, but hadn't previously stayed in this resort. The quality of the rooms was excellent. It is primarily a time-share, and each suite has two full-size beds with their own en-suite bathroom, as well as a good sized kitchen, dining area, and seating area. Very pleasant and nice. Only downside is that it isn't too far from main road or railway, which can be a problem for some (although I didn't hear either during my stay). Pets are allowed, but a surplus cost needs to be paid. They have a very nice spa as part of the facility (no surprise, given the name). Highly recommended. It is not near the center of town, so you have to drive there (or walk 15 - 20 minutes). It does not have its own restaurant

Room Tip: Ask at the front desk about rooms away from the rail side if noise is a concern

Very nice hotel/resort, the rooms are outfitted with high end furniture and kitchenware which came in handy for the meals we prepared in the room. Beds are very comfortable and overall the resort was clean. Love the underground parking, but didn't like the one elevator that serviced the entire wing, in fact the elevator broke down the weekend we were there and hauling suitcases up three flights of stairs isn't fun. Would we stay here again? Most likely, although there are other resorts just like the Solara, so the room pricing would have to be competitive.

Even when you arrive at 1:30 in the morning, the front desk staff are friendly and helpful. The suite was lovely and clean, but most inviting was a light and music that were on when I arrived. Was able to make the best of my short stay.

I stayed at Solara in October 2011 and really enjoyed it. We had some challenges with our reservation at that time, but the stay turned out great. We decided to try it again in October 2012. Prior to arriving, we had excellent help from Solara staff co-ordinating multiple reservations.

We stayed for three nights in a premium 2-bedroom suite. What awesome space and layout! The bedrooms (especially one of them) was huge. One of the bedrooms and bathrooms is actually a smaller adjoining room. Both bedrooms had huge full ensuite bathrooms, and both had a fireplace and flat screen TV. The beds were quite comfortable. I have no complaints whatsoever about the bedrooms or bathrooms.

The suite itself was lovely throughout, as was the previous one that we stayed in. However, we did have problems with the oven not working properly. In addition, the oven looked like it had never been cleaned. It was absolutely splattered with mess inside and smoked when we turned it on. The windows in the suite were awesome - there were two sets of doors to walk out to the balcony and the windows covered the entire one wall of the living room. The only problem was the windows were filty. There were fingerprints all over them and something was splattered on them - you couldn't stand having the curtains open and looking at the mess. I had to use my eyeglass cleaner to clean them. My husband said that the toilet in the bathroom he was using wasn't clean either, but I didn't see it. Other than that, the suite was fairly clean.

The other problems were the TV and internet service. The satellite was down for several hours one evening. That ended up being a big inconvenience. The secure internet did not work for two of the three days either. My other pet peeve is the channels on the TV. At a beautiful place like Solara where they've installed lots of great TV's, could they not add a few HD channels? I can't imagine it would cost much. The quality of the TV picture was awful.

Our friends were upgraded from a one-bedroom to a regular two-bedroom suite (it wasn't a premium two-bedroom). Having seen their regular two-bedroom suite, I would not book one of them. There was only a tiny window area in it (one set of patio doors), and if you were sitting anywhere in the living room, you could not see outside and it made for a dark room. Even the one-bedroom we had last year at Solara had huge windows. So, before booking a two-bedroom, I would advise calling Solara and asking if all the regular two-bedrooms have the lack of windows. If so, I'd definitely recommend spending a few more dollars for the premium two-bedroom.

Generally, we really enjoyed our stay and our suite. I certainly wouldn't mind staying there again. However, due to some of the cleanliness and technology issues, I will likely try another property for my next Canmore stay just to see how it compares. I can't help but get the feeling of some neglect at Solara, although it certainly wasn't terrible.

I wish there was a 3.5 rating on here as that's what I think my true assessment would be. However, I'm giving Solara the benefit of the doubt and rounding up to a 4.

Dear Luvjasperdog,

Thank you for your review of your stay at Solara Resort & Spa! Our management teams read each review and use it to continually improve our level of service to our guests!

We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our two bedroom premium suites, they are large and luxurious! The kitchens are equipped with modern European style ovens that can take some getting used to. Our teams are always available and happy to assist our guests with the ovens and stovetops. We have spoken to our housekeeping team and supervisors about your experiences to ensure that nothing is missed while checking the room before releasing to our guests. We do apologise for the oversight, our guest services team is here 24hrs a day to assist our guests with anything, and we would have loved to send a team up immediately to address any oversights.

The cable and internet did have disruptions during your stay, however, this was town wide and not isolated to Solara. We do have an extensive library of DVD’s and PS3 games that are available to our guests that can be enjoyed in the units as well as our full size movie theatre where we play nightly movies!

Our team was happy to upgrade your travelling partners so that everyone could be close to enjoy your weekend away together! Whenever possible we aim to meet or exceed our guests’ expectations so that everyone can have an exceptional experience at Solara Resort & Spa!

Thank you again for taking the time to provide feedback on your most recent stay at Solara and we look forward to hosting you again soon!

We stayed at the Solara resort & Spa in Canmore for a long-weekend. The suite was really nice and beautiful, fully equipped with all appliances and a nice electric bbq on the balcony.

Nice cozy fire places and furniture and a beautiful bathroom, spa style. We really had a great time at this hotel, that even includes a jacuzzi, a relaxation pool and a movie theater!
