“Didn't feel comfortable”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2010

We did not have a very nice stay at By the Brook. The hosts really didn't seem to want us there. We found them to be very cold,an they didn't even say hello when we came in the door. It just really felt like staying in a stranger's home.
We were told that wireless internet would be available, but we had to ask repeately for the password to get onto it. They said they didn't have the password, and we could just connect to the unsecured wireless network from the coffee shop nearby. It was too far away to get any kind of connection. So if you need wireless internet, especially secure wireless internet, don't stay here.
The breakfasts were really good, a nice variety everyday. However, I didn't find the place to be very clean. As was mentioned in some of the other reviews, the room was very dusty, and I don't think the carpets were vaccumed. The rooms were not made up during our 5 night stay.
The other side of the house is where the hosts and there children live. At night we could here them watching loud movies, and yelling to one another, which made us even more uncomfortable.
Overall, I would not stay here again.

We stayed here at the very end of August 2008 at the start of our trip up through the Rockies and couldn't have started in a nicer place.

By the Brook is a great cosy little B&B with well appointed rooms and brilliant hosts in Paul & Corey. The location within Canmore is terrific, surprisingly enough by a brook and a short walk to the main town area.

Paul & Corey are terrific, along with their delicious breakfasts they have a great knowledge of the town and the surrounding area. Like many people we arrived straight from our flight from the UK and they were especially understanding that we may be awake at strange hours and made us feel right at home.

Their recommendations of places to eat were spot on, the Rocky Mountain flat bread company, the Grizzly Paw pub and Quarry were especially good. They even had good recommendations of what to do when we awoke on 31st August to a liberal covering of snow which put paid to our original plans!

Canmore itself is a terrific little town, in my opinion a much nice place than Banff but within easy driving distance of the national park. There are several nice lakes and walks around Canmore, but you can also easily get to Banff, Lake Minnewanka and Johnston Canyon.

We stayed here for three nights on or trip through the Rockies. So glad that we stayed in Canmore rather tna Banff. By the Brook gives you a warm welcome, access to a lovely, relaxing little town with lots of restaurants, places for coffee, opportunites for some good walking and of course the views - not that we saw too much of them because we had a fair bit of rain. Accommodation very comfortable and good breakfasts. It beat most of the hotels that we stayed in hands down and we'd certainly come back again.

We stayed at By the Brook in April 2007 during a 2 week trip around the Rockies. Paul and Corey were very friendly hosts and the warm, well furnished B&B more than exceeded our expectations.

It is located in a quiet cul-de-sac location within easy, and pleasant access to the centre of town, the countryside and even a shopping mall.

Paul & Corey knew the area well, and there was much information in the room, and available in the B&B on what to do, where to go and places to see.

The breakfasts were varied - 4 nights, and 4 different breakfasts. The bed comfy and the whole B&B had a friendly, warm and comfortable feel to it.

Would thoroughly recommend it, would love to have stayed longer and look forward to being able to return one day.

This was a nice house in a quiet location. The hosts were very friendly, the breakfasts were okay but the housekeeping was terrible. We stayed for 3 nightsand the bed was never made up, no clean towels were offered, and under the bed,the dust was about a half inch deep. On the second night, I moved a chair around to use my laptop and a pair of dirty womens thong panties was laying there. We won't go back to this place.

My wife and I stayed here for a couple of nights at the end of our Rockies trip in Sept 06. Situated in a cul-de-sac, the house looks quite nice from the outside, but inside it's something else!
Lovely open split-level main area (lounge/breakfast area - bedrooms - guest coffee/Tv/relaxing area).

Corey and Paul were very welcoming and chatty hosts. Corey's breakfasts were superb.

Our room was modern, stylishly decorated, very comfortable bed, Sat-TV + DVD player, amazing bathroom.

Location is great too - A pretty 10mins walk into town along the river, for access to great places to eat, coffee shops, and generally a really nice town ("Grizzly Bear" pub: excellent beers & very good food, "Luna Blue" - very good pasta restaurant with some 'alternative' dishes)

Only wished we were able to stay here longer.

By the Brook is a nice quiet bed and breakfast. It is really close to town and there are beautiful walking trails that take you right to the city center in minutes. The house and rooms were neat and tidy and the beds were very comfortable. I would highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone planning on travelling to Canmore. I give it 5 Stars.
