“Great deal!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

My wife and I stayed here for two nights and loved the property. For less than the cost of the average hotel room we got a one bedroom suite with a full kitchen. I cooked two dinners and one lunch during our stay and saved even more money. The bathroom was beautiful with a big soaking tub. This place is a real winner. The room was a little dusty when we got there but this was a minor quibble in the face of the great value.

Room was basic. Spa was in odd location, inside the parkade. When we were looking online they had a different price than what was quoted over the phone and ended up paying the over the phone price less 10 %.

Room Tip: Spa services were ok but don't bother with the Indian Head Massage, not really a massage and a w...

My overall rating for this property would be 3.5/5 but that wasn't an option. I would rate it 3.5 because it isn't necessarily "very good" but it also isn't just "average".

Typically we stay at Falcon Crest Lodge or Blackstone while in Canmore. This time we thought we'd try something different and wanted to bring the dogs with us (not accepted at Falcon Crest).

The location of Silver Creek Lodge is okay. It's kind of tucked away from lots but at the same time it's next to an Esso gas station, Tim Horton's and McDonalds. It isn't really too close to downtown or any restaurants aside from Sage Bistro. On the plus side, similar properties that offer a full kitchen and multiple bedrooms in condo-style living usually don't have the view that Silver Creek Lodge has. The view was spectacular and there wasn't really much that could block it.

The room was clean but you also got the impression it could be cleaner. This all comes from the fact that they have chosen very poorly when it comes to interior furnishings. The furniture was fine at one point but it isn't anymore. It's all marked up (dressers, night stand, coffee table, end tables, etc.) to the point where the room looks a little run down. Yes, this happens but I'm comparing to the other places that I have stayed that don't really have this. To add to this run down feel, the hallways have lots of small marks, missing paint, and dings that make it look run down as well. The biggest issue with this is that customers see this and (a) feel it's run down and (b) treat it like it's run down. A simple clean up of the furniture, baseboards, and common areas would go a long way. For me, stuff like this raises flags. If there owners are willing to neglect the obvious to this point then what else are they letting slip by?

Pet-friendly is a huge plus and I'll tell you why. I have two dogs and most places charges $20 per dog per night. Well, at Silver Creek Lodge they only charge $20 per night. If you're friends bringing a dog or you're staying a bit longer that is huge savings.

Although I didn't have much interaction with the staff, they were very friendly and attentive when we did speak. No complaints at all.

Overall, would I recommend this place? Absolutely! But, I would recommend it for pet owners or friends getting away for a night of dinner and drinks or a hike. If you're going on a family vacation, don't need pet friendly and would like a warmer environment, I'd stay at Falcon Crest Lodge.

This is a good place at a fair price.

Great place to stay! 7of us stayed for a nursing reunion, and the hotel had everything we needed! The suites were clean, the beds comfortable and the kitchens were complete. I would recommend staying there!

Room Tip: The train rumbles by during the night, so if you're a light sleeper, ask for a room on the other...

Hubby surprised me with a weekend away. Booked through Booking.com and he specifically asked to see the mountains. When we arrived we were told room was not ready so we left and went to the Grizzly Pub for a pint and a bite (review to follow). 1.5 hrs later we checked in and were told room still not ready and staff had to physically check to see of it was available. When we entered the room, it was west facing the highway and there were no mountain view room left available. Our 15 mth old grandson was with us and the noise from the highway made it difficult for him to settle in the evenings. We asked for the wifi code and one was provided, but we were not aware until later in the evening that the code only works on 1 device. Called down to see if we were doing something wrong and we were told need codes for each device and that they would get back to us right away. An hour later we called them back and then still had to wait to get additional codes. The staff are friendly but are not informative regarding the amenities and services at all. The hot tubs were amazing and gorgeous at night, and would recommend for a winter stay but not so much for spring and summer.

Room Tip: Book mountain view NOT west facing

Our room was modern and well appointed with some self catering facility but we had a few issues. We made our Booking through Booking.com and we specifically requested a quiet location but we were given a room next to the foyer and next to the restaurant and next to the hotel power room. Now being next to a power room meant that electrical equipment was running all the time and although not loud per se, there was constant buzzing/vibration which was annoying, especially in the middle of the night when everything was quiet. I had to resort to ear plugs. There was no facility to open a window and get fresh air apart from a small grille so the room was quite stuffy especially when the sun was shining on the side of the hotel. The temperature control in the room didn't work however low the set point was set. There were a few impracticalities. A microwave, toaster, perculator and kettle were provided but only 2 electrical sockets; the microwave instruction booklet was for a different model; the fridge managed to freeze the milk whatever the setting (there was no freezer compartment as such) and a desk was provided in a dark corner with no lighting. The bath was quite a deep soaker tub but having a shower meant negotiating the high sidewall of the bath and my wife who had a THR last year found this difficult. There was no grab rail provided which we felt was a safety issue.

We booked through another website on which the description of the hotel room was a little misleading however the room was still very nice. The staff at the Front Desk were very friendly and welcoming. I would recommend this location for more of a winter getaway so you can take full advantage of the fireplace, the outdoor hot tubs, and the bathtub (which looked amazing). Overall, it was a very good stay, and I would definitely book there again for future trips to Canmore.
