We stayed right next door at the Paintbox Lodge and after we were unable to get into our first choice late that Friday, we decided to try this place. To be honest, the food was quite good and the service was fantastic. The place is a bit small and the prices were a bit steep, but given the location it's hard to be surprised. My surprise came the next day as we were leaving. I had an uncomfortable feeling that the 20% automatic tip generated by the machine seamed a bit off, but I quickly dismissed it (might have been the sangria) and we happily left on our evening. The next morning I took another look at the receipt and did the math myself. I don't ever recall it being customary to calculate the tip including taxes (GST)? I've checked several other checks where I've asked the credit card machine to automatically calculate the tip at restaurants in Calgary and they all seem to exclude the GST. While I am a guest in your country, this seems a bit wrong and not consistently applied. Since GST is a tax, I don't think it is appropriate to use this for the basis of calculating a tip for services provided.
