“Amazing experience, beautiful dogs!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours was a major highlight of our trip! We went there in September when there is not snow in Canmore/Banff. So instead of going on an actual sled dog tour we went to their property where the dogs live and we got an educational tour and got to pet and interact with the dogs. Steve was a great tour guide for us. He knew all 178 dogs by name, breed, etc. He knew the dogs like they were his children. And it showed that he loves his job. =) Steve educated us about the breeds of dogs, about the Snowy Owl Company, about how the dogs are cared for, what they eat, how they exercise, etc. We walked around and got to pet the majority of the dogs while we learned about the different breeds of dogs that they use to run sleds at the Snowy Owl. What's amazing is that throughout the tour I felt the love for each dog at this facility and I was more than pleased to know that they take amazing care of their dogs. It was a great tour, educational, and fun. After we pet the adult dogs we got to play with and pet the puppies at the conclusion of the tour. I would love to come back in winter to take an actual sled dog ride!!! This was a great experience overall and I would highly recommend it, and you will for sure love it if you are a dog lover!!!

We were only in Canmore for one night and had arranged to visit another kennel as Snowy Owl weren't open on the day we could go. The other kennel cancelled on us at last minute (I rang them and found this out) so we were very disappointed. We started to look around to see what other kennels were available on our trip, but none were close by or even did summer dog kennel tours.

But Snowy Owl came to our rescue! Carlin agreed to take us round on her day off and we couldn't have been any more grateful. The kennel tour was everything we hoped for - lots of dog petting and information about the different breeds that they have there. The dogs are very well cared for and were very friendly. One of them just wanted hugging!

We loved every minute of the tour which ended with a visit to the puppy kennels - they were very playful and wanted lots of attention. Carlin was very knowledgeable about the dogs giving lots of information on the breeds, health and diet. She even knew the names of all 176 dogs there. We were introduced to nearly every one! They also have a programme for adopting the retired dogs so that they find loving and happy homes after hanging up their harnesses.

This tour is a must for dog lovers - dress in something that you don't mind getting dirty, long pants and sensible shoes are recommended.

“A must for dog lovers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

Sled dog tour? In Summer? Yes, and yes. I looked into the Snowy Owl tours because my 12-year old daughter absolutely loves huskies. She and I were the only ones in our family to go, and we both LOVED it. It's a family owned business, and they clearly loved their dogs. I went in ahead of time to their offices and asked a lot of questions, which were answered fully and politely. I felt like the cost ($45 per/person, including transportation) would be worth it. My daughter was excited about the 177 dogs, and I think she visited with almost eery single one! It's definitely a hands-on experience, with some of the dogs calling visitors over for some special attention. And of course, the highlight were the nine puppies they currently have. We couldn't stop cuddling with them! The guide (I'm sorry that I don't remember his name) was super knowledgeable and explained the differences in the various breeds to us, and the various personalities of the dogs, and his litter naming protocols (very cute!). If I am ever back in the Winter months, I will DEFINITELY go on a sled ride with this outfitter. They run a professional organization, are friendly and relaxed and knowledgeable.
PS: wear comfortable shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty!

“Summer kennel tour is great fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

We were looking forward to this and it did not disappoint! The tour starts at the office where you are driven in a van to the kennels nearby. We learned about the breeds of the dogs and the operations of the facility (feeding and care of the dogs). Our guide Steve was very knowledgeable and obviously loves all the dogs.

Oh, the dogs! I was not exactly sure what to expect, but you can pet ( and get hugged and kissed) by as many dogs as you can stand :). They are all happy and love to interact. A few dogs, who are less social, are on the outer edge so that you are guided away from them. At the end you can also play with the puppies - a highlight for all. If you are visiting the area in the summer, this is something very unique and fun to do.

Do wear pants and shoes (not sandals) - makes dog 'hugs' less painful.
