“Nice view and good swimming but bugs and high winds will keep us away in the future”
Just came back from camping (tenting) at the famous Haynes Point campground. When we arrived our assigned campsite looked promising - right on the water and some trees for shade, with decent privacy. We came home 2 days early, however, after very very high winds kepts us from being able to sleep in our tent. Winds were so high that it ripped metal tentpegs right out of the ground and bent tentpoles. We had to escape into the car to risk being hit by the tent in case it uprooted completely. I know there are wind warnings at the entrance to the site but they should not permit people to tent if tents cannot be used. Another campsites had extensive damage to their RV due to the high winds. I guess if you can predict the windspeeds exactly you could avoid this and your trip would be okay...if it were not for the huge amounts of tiny bugs that swarm on the campsites, particularly around the picnic table and car. This is due to the lake which is covered in the bugs. If you have a cup of water or juice you will see at least 3 bugs swimming in it within 1 minute. These are the same bugs that swarm around ponds and standing water and huddle in the air. Now I know why people there were covering their picnic tables with those see through tents. Swimming is great though and it's beautiful. Visit, don't stay there though.
